I have no experience of moving wisterias LIR - but I certainly wouldn't want to try with ours, lol! We believe it's been there since 1924 which was when our extension was built ;)

Despite no pruning for the last few years (whilst the house was empty/unsold) - well, apart from where I gave it a haircut to stop it scrambling over the roof - it looked amazing this year, but it does need attention.

How established is yours? Did you guys plant it? I guess *FavesNave* (love it :D) is your man.....

I did pass one in someone's garden the other day that was grown as a tree - very large and not on any kind of supporting wall - it looked fab, but from a distance in the car I couldn't tell if it was Chinese or Japanese :o

Ours cannot be that old. It is planted were the bit of house fell down in the sixties.

I do not believe its anything like that old. Nothing remotely near. No idea how old though. Predates us, looks no older than when we arrived.

Gosh Alfie, that's almost as large as ours, which spans 62 ft  with a trunk girth of about 5 ft :D

I thought ours was the largest I'd seen irl, but saw one on a house during our travels the other day that easily trumped it in length (but not girth), spanning about 40 ft in each direction!

There are some real monsters online though.....

I'm in agreement about LIR digging hers up - if it's going to be lost at some point anyway due to building works - I'd just go for it.....nothing to lose!

Consumer unit replaced and I can post again, but the news is sad. We took Tinky Winky to the vet this morning, as she was visibly 'down' for the first time....We didn't bring her back.smiley-sad011.gif

The horrible canker in her mouth & throat was virtually gone, and she'd got her voice back, but areas of infection inside her head were giving new symptoms. She might still have recovered, but would probably have gone blind, so there was only one sensible option. :(

Sorry to hear your news Dave. Poor Tinky Winky :A
What a shame after getting rid of the canker. :(:(:(

RIP Tinky, hope there's lots of sweetcorn in Tinky heaven.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

So sorry to hear about poor Tinky Winky Dave :A Bless her, I really hoped she had turned a corner.....x

We were only talking last night about finally getting some chickens, but really not sure if I want to add to the potential heartache that inevitably comes with keeping animals......our three cats are all getting older and our outdoor boy (Archie), who is now fifteen and looking increasingly frail, no longer wants to go outside, even on the warmest days :(

Sunny intervals here and I've been tackling the various lawned areas this morning - trimming the edges mainly, but need to start mowing soon - and have been silently cursing the PO (again, lol!) for allowing such a lovely space to fall into decay......

God help the new owners of his current house (should he ever decide to sell) if he lets the twenty acres of beautiful formal gardens and woodland go in the same way he did here

With animals, it's usually plain when they've had enough, but Tinky would probably have battled-on, just as she always did, with her gammy legs. She'd become rather used to being a 'house hen,' living in our ramshackle conservatory and being around us.

But yesterday she didn't do much, and the eye problem began, which is a different ball game from mouths & throats. Ironically, the feeding bit was down to 10 minutes from about 40 and she was clucking and trilling just for the hell of it.

    Oh well...:(

In other news, the contractors for Western Power have visited and reduced one of our oak trees, leaving us with a huge pile of branches, but there's precious little firewood in it. The sheep will probably eat some of it. Not good for them, but no way to stop them.
