It's been a beautiful morning here too, but I think we are about to cloud-up now. So mild! :)

Yesterday it was going like a fair here, as the contractors came to cut all the maize local to us, followed by hedge-cutting in those fields, followed by ploughing.

So, by the end of the day, many acres had been harvested, the boundaries tidied and the land ploughed! A bit factory-farmish but blooming efficient.

Well, I keep getting timed out too.

We've had over 7" of rain the last couple of days. It's still throwing it down.

    Completely disgusting........

Now MSE is sort of working, dare I ask after the roof, the track and the roads, choille?

I am looking at great black clouds scudding past; like there is a huge fire nearby. Although we are at 600 footish the hill normally force them higher.

Sorry alfie, I'm still suffering with this bug that might be related to the flu jab.....it's not bad enough to keep me out of the action, but I've been going to bed very early! :o

Now I'm up early too! Still sneezing. :(

Not much to report. We finished the roofing yesterday, so we'll be putting up the kitchen ceiling this morning, reconnecting the taps and that will be back in action again in a day or so....until we rip it all out next year and have it re-fitted.

Soon, we want to get the top of the chimney re-built, but we need the scaffolders to re-jig their stuff first.

There's more musical rooms ahead too. Next, we'll move out of our bedroom, take out the window there & put it in the kitchen where the hole is ready for it, then we move the office into a spare bedroom and relocate it's window & block up the front door. At that stage, we ought to be able to get all the parts we've done rendered, except it'll be winter and probably too cold! :rotfl:

The building inspector is back today....

What else? Only a possible problem with the water main that goes to the village. It might be coincidence, but there's a very wet patch where it passes out of our land, close to the stream. Nowhere else is that mushy yet. It's a 'wait and see.' Not bad enough to call water co thus far...

Cyber hugs for Dave who is still feeling poorly.
Sorry to hear you lost your chucks CTC :(:(:(, horrible thing to happen. Alfie, we had our carpets cleaned in our old house and it was embarrassing the sludge at the bottom of the cleaner:eek::eek::eek:

Work is ongoing with our utility room, although it has been a battle as the installer unilaterally changed the configuration of the corner units and the location of the sink. Then he got cross with me because I was in the house (resting in bed) when he did it and wasn't checking on what he was up to :mad::mad:

Having agreed to a plan which I had written down I was stupidly of the opinion that he would do what was agreed.

Seriously considered telling him to never darken our door again, but it will be done, it will be done to a standard I am happy with, and he will bloody well do it as agreed. Plus haven't paid him anything yet for the utility and still owe him some for the kitchen which still has a few bits and pieces to do.

One of the biggest problems is that he is a chauvinist, and at long last Mr BD has got more involved and pushing things on. Mr BD's list of 'things yet to be done' has been better received than my list of 'things yet to be done'. On the plus side I think that Mr BD is now more understanding of my shortness of temper over the last few months.;););)

Water softener now installed, quickly, efficiently by a local company and without fuss. Softened water starting to come through and it is a luxury worth the £500 :D:D:D

Still incredibly mild for the end of October, and the heating in the house is now much more controllable as the thermostatic radiator valves are working really well. If any of you are considering putting them in or replacing I can highly recommend the Pegler Yorkshire Terrier TRV and lockshields.

Sorry, also meant to say Phoebe, congrats on your house move :j:j:j, hope it all goes smoothly for you. Looking forward to hearing about the garden, 1/4 acre is a good size to do something with, my chickens would love it I know!! Plus if it was previously a well looked after garden there may be some exciting finds plant wise which pop up in the spring. :D:D:D

    Waves to BD

Thanks BD....yes, we're getting really excited about house, garden & location - which will hopefully be far better suited to us than where we are currently. It should also be a more secure place for our two naughty dogs (once we've got it all fenced properly :o) I guess we won't be able to do a huge amount outside till the Spring, although I won't be able to resist getting started on exploring the *undergrowth* and I do intend to get some chickens soon, which we never got around to here :D

DH is itching to get started on the new kitchen, which we plan to re-site in one of the reception rooms.....I've been poring over online brochures etc today and dreaming of pot-fillers & tons of deep drawers, the latter being something we didn't incorporate enough of here.....

Sounds as though you and Mr BD are making good progress with your kitchen and utility rooms.....shame your builder seems like a bit of a pita :( Still, it must be exciting for you to be getting on so well with it all.....oooh, and a water-softener too - exciting! xxx

  • Dave - sounds as though you're having fun.....sorry to hear you are suffering though :(

Good news about finishing the roof before the worst of the weather arrives. It's horrifically wet here today - and there's a lovely *pea souper* shrouding the village (good job we picked yesterday to tidy [STRIKE]most of[/STRIKE] the garden & have a bonfire!) - all your talk of building work reminded me how fortunate we were to get our external building work completed back in October 2012 despite that terribly wet summer ;) It's amazing how soon stuff like having no hot water for six months becomes a distant memory.....

    Hope you feel better soon!
