DAVE......HELP
Somebody call? Yes, cornus carparkensis sanguinea, I believe.
Well..... I might have made some of that up.
IHS, it's not JK, or even JFK.
Busy here again, but maybe not quite so busy as it will be tomorrow when we screed the garage floor. All the insulation stuff is down and it's just a small matter of making 3 dumpy bags worth of screed, laying it level and then keeping the moglets off. The original floor has the most amazing set of dog footprints!
The person who bought the Aga sent me his details, but all I get is answerphone, so I leave messages and nothing happens. When I looked up his feedback, I found he'd only bought 2 items in his 4 years of membership.
As for the old oil tank, someone bid £40 on a BIN of £65, so I suggested they raise it a little....and they disappeared! :undecided
Don't think I'm too good at this e bay lark!0 -
Just been reflecting on the Glasgow garden compared to the previous one in Cambs.
New Zealand flax, Californian lilac and iris grow but aren't happy.
Perennial cornflower, shasta daisy and carex grasses grow like mad.
Late season plants like asters are barely in flower before the weather gets bad
The only reliable repeat flowering bulbs are daffs; aliums, tulips and hyacinths don't.
It's all too easy to fill the garden with conifers as a lazy choice and end up vernacular look
That said, the signs are encouraging that the perennials in their 2nd year will give a good show.0 -
At least you've had some interest in your oil tank, Dave
Spurred on by you mentioning it yesterday we listed ours, but have had no best offers so far and hardly any watchers.....Don't think oil heating is as common in this part of the world
Ebay buyers are a funny breed - we were recently selling a piece of antique furniture and had a message from someone asking if we could arrange a courier on their behalf. We did as asked and went back to them with a - very reasonable IMHO - price......never heard from them again. DH has a customer in the States who calls him (from his mobile) on a daily basis - sometimes as early as 8am and occasionally several times a day. This guy works at the Pentagon - or so he claims - and just seems to want to chat about music.....I blooming well wish we hadn't put our home number on our business contact details as it's preventing him from getting on now
Fingers crossed that despite all signs to the contrary your aga guy will come goodMortgage-free for fourteen years!

If no one bids on the tank, I will pull it tomorrow. It's not as if it's in the way. We can stick it in the van and place it in the yard. We need the concrete blocks supporting it next week!
The guy who purchased the Aga put the money in Paypal, but of course I can't draw it until he takes the Aga away.
Generally speaking, I'm becoming a tad rattled by the slow pace of things here, as 'slow' often turns into 'stop.' For example, I've had an order outstanding for 6 loads of logs for around 2 months. As there is no communication and no sign that this will be fulfilled any time soon, I shall place it with someone else shortly. I won't be taken for granted like that.
Similarly, I've written to and left phone messages for Mr Rod re the plastering over the past few weeks (phone is a joke!), but does he get back to me? He passed last night and waved from his truck, but would he pause for two minutes to discuss the next stage? Nope.:(
When they finally arrive, Mr Rod & his chums work hard and don't charge the earth, but trying to project manage with them is impossible. However, I've just heard of two young plasterers who are "messy, but good and go like ****!" newly returned from Oz and looking for work.....;)
It won't go down well, if we go with them instead!
Mixing concrete all day today and I'm stiff before I start. Plants are selling well. Tomatoes will be gone soon. None left for church plant sale. Oh dear!:o0 -
Oh dear Dave
Sounds a bit stressful at Dave Central.:(:(:( So difficult to plan when tradespeople don't turn up when they say they will, and when they do arrive on the doorstep some behave like they are doing you a massive favour gracing you with their presence.
Ebay can be great but it can be a pain, especially buyers who don't read the bloomin' description. I once sold a top - size 10. But as sizes vary between brands I put the measurements in the listing. Person who bought gave me a neg as the top was too small for her.:mad::mad: More likely she was too big for the measurements
Phoebe I'm most jealous of all the lovely plants that are coming up in your garden. All we seem to have come up are stinging nettles, other assorted weeds and hellebores. Oh and there is a very healthy Rose of Sharon and a few rose bushes. The Rose of Sharon put on lots of soft growth this time last year, and then went floppy. If I trim it back now will it affect flowering do you think?
Went to doctors yesterday for meds review and she thinks I am at high risk for osteoporosis. So blood test and bone density scan ordered. Plus I have had 3 letters inviting me for the NHS health check - but of course it can't be done at the same time as the blood test.......
BD Central is going to busy today. Mr BD's Dad and his partner, aunt, uncle and brother are all arriving down from Yorkshire to stay the night and go and see Mr BD play in Sweet Charity.:eek::eek:
Risked giving Old Dog a low dose of her Previcox (anti inflammatory) yesterday and she is moving around better this morning, and so far no more gastro intestinal disturbance than usual (the 'fragrant' el nino effect continues unabated). Plus the last 3 days she has asked to go out for a walk with Mr BD and daft as a brush. Her tummy still isn't right though, possibly we'll never get back to how she was before this horrible tummy bug.
Still no eggs.:(
What's the news on Tinky Dave?
Ordered some seeds from T&M, hope they arrive today.:DIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Afternoon all
If you re-list the oil tank, depending on what size it is etc, some people are buying them now and turning them into pig arcs, so again depending on its size etc might be worth putting ideal pig arc project in the title to get another type of buyer..
Well been all fun and games here the factory owners have phoned the police on us twice in 2 days... Once for ' alledhe demonstrationd/ picketing as they started putting up the fencing, and again for damaging their fence?? Which is totally impossible, as we were up the ranch because of the first police visit. It also coincides with a visit and a phone call from the council re no planning g permission for the fencing.. Local councillor told me, they have been told to stop everything until they put in for planning, otherwise an enforcement notice will be issued ( is that to compulsory notice to take down the fences??) This must have been said/ done this morning as when hubby passed the house for the second time at lunch time everyone had gone and the factory locked up, so this is why I am home now.... So I should imagine the police or something else will be flying our way because of them.. I think the council and councillor are now realising its not sour grapes on our behalf, so now can see exactly what they are like...
Soooo can wait for Sunday. ... For the spring show, does seem strange not being there today setting up a stall etc.. And it will be wired not rushing round like a Looney trying to see the pigs, and other stalls etc...
Will try and post a PIC of the fencing later once I have had the all important cuppaWork to live= not live to work0
