  • Still awake, don't know how long for though, fire is lit and glass of wine isn't touching the sides!

Hard to explain Alfie, the goats have an outdoor covered area, like a carport, but with enclosed sides, and it's next to/in front of a stable, which they can get into and used to use but they've choosen the outside bit now. I've sectioned off a corner of that outdoor bit for maternity use, heat lamp set up there etc.

The stable is relatively dark and not esp well ventilated, something I'm planning to address soon, as it's rather under utilised - ATM it's only used by a couple of geese and ducks to go to bed in!

No sign of any more lambs for now, famous last words, but they were late last year. And the other goats look a while away too. Just as well, there's only so many dramas and sleepless nights I can cope with in a week!

I've yet to take any sheep to slaughter but I will be soon, starting with Mr Evil so it won't be as tough as it might. I'm pretty strict on having no pets in the farm yard BUT I've got two wethers that are soooo friendly I can't see myself parting with them, they'd be last in line. I do get their fab wool and when I have visitors they nibble pockets and zips, adorable on cue, though so they're not entirely freeloading!

This is my 'pet' sheep, the one that Pete raised on the bottle. Now his wife won't let her go where all the others are going!:rotfl:t5ritc.jpg

She's quite 'pretty' for a sheep, but FK's kids are prettier.

There's some really ugly sheep in the field next door. They're not a local breed, and just 3 of them, as they're pets/lawn mowers. I will have a look on Ooogle and see if I can find out what they are...

EDIT: Can't find the exact thing, but they look like what might result from a cross between a Leicester and a Merino!

Beautiful sheep Dave, but then I'm a bit of a sheep fan :D

FK - do hope the little fella goes on ok :)

Been busy here, inside and out....DH has begun reshaping the flower beds which were so badly overgrown and also got more planting done. There's still masses to do - he's only scratched the surface of the reshaping, but already it looks much better. Also removed a small apple tree that was smack bang in the centre of the lower lawn - usually I hate to get rid of plants (especially those that are productive) but it was a bit of an eyesore and spoiled the view :p

I've repainted the first floor cloakroom - one of the few rooms here not to have walls covered in the dreaded woodchip wallpaper (although it does have it on the ceiling ) - as a quick fix before our next lot of guests descend (Easter). Can't believe I waited till now as it's a huge improvement on the 1970s ditsy floral paper complete with dodgy looking stains  In time we'll fit the gothic style high level loo in there, but for now it will suffice as it is.

I'm also getting ready to wallpaper the secondary hall (which will be our dining room). Have just enough of some fab replica Voysey (Arts & Crafts) paper from the States to do a couple of walls :D

I'm in danger of repeating myself, but I'm sooooo pleased to have the luxury of plastered walls in this house....hooray :j

    Lots to tempt!

Sorry BD, I completely missed this :( Yes, that's them...we were very impressed when we visited the showroom before we migrated from that part of the country last year.

Previously we've used a small independent kitchen manufacturer in Essex (both when we lived locally and for our last house in Wilts), but last time we weren't as happy with the finish (although they were *paint your own* units so I guess it was more the build we weren't pleased with, lol!) so decided to go elsewhere this time.....hopefully they'll live up to expectations ;)

We just need to make a decision on the island. Last three houses DH has built them himself - getting increasingly adventurous as his confidence has grown, to the extent where he considered making them to order. With our other business there really isn't time though so this time I thought I'd give him a break and have one built, but old habits die hard and he's insisting he designs/makes the thing :o

FK - Beautiful kids. Have you got lambstart? It does come in handy for boosting them a bit. I think it's just runny lick bucket juice! & costs £18!

Kitchen all plaster-boarded & mostly filled. Goodness what a difference a week has made with the right person. Also has been a painter for 40 years so he knows one heck of a load of stuff about paint & painting so I'm picking his brains as we work. The gable wall looks fabulous - I'm thrilled with it & the colour of the paint. Took me long enough to get just the right shade, but got there in the end.

CTC & FK : Can you get draught? People here get it from breweries to feed pigs as it's basically organic & also it's cheap.

CTC: 1880 style wallpaper would be like a William Morris pattern? Don't know if that's what you are looking for?

Tomorrow it's back to the grind but the pace is thrilling.

Happy Eclipse in the morning! That's if you lot can see it what with all your pollution down there. Take care.

Wot pollution? I bet I could liken many of my lichen to the lichen you're liking! :p

Glad you're getting on so well with the build now.:T It makes a huge difference when trades show up on time and get on with the job.....;)

Personally, I'm hating the decoration stage, especially choosing the paint. We were on that all afternoon today, and so intent, we forgot to have lunch! We started feeling unwell at about four-thirty, then realised it was lack of food.:o:o

Anyway, if it was down to me, I'd paint it all magnolia and get back into the garden asap! :rotfl:
  • Fk sureli it was a waste of time putting a heat lamp on outside under a canopy???

Errr, no, It's not easy to explain but it's already pretty sheltered, the lamp just gives them a warmer spot to go to in their pen, they don't always snuggle together, but by staying more outdoors they stay hardy.

Thanks Dave, they are cute babies :D Your pet sheep looks ok, I esp. like the look of her fleece. I've seen some sheep that only their mothers could love though - there was a Texel on countryfile the other week, sold at market for six figures, but bless him, not a pretty boy, neither were his lambs!

The wethers I mentioned before are very handsome, called Elvis and Alvin cos they have long sideburns.

Thanks choille yes I've got the lamb stuff, and a ewe boost, also very expensive, They do look like runny lick buckets! I actually didn't think to use it on him, I had the stomach tube at the ready though :o

Sadly nothing available from the breweries, other people have beaten me to it, although a friend home brews beer from grain so I get the odd bucket, pigs LOVE it!

It's good you're making a big dent in the kitchen, it's easier to keep going once the momentum is built up.

Wonder if we'll see the eclipse? It's looking bright. Choille I think you're best located, if the cloud lifts. The Beeb is broadcasting from the town in Cornwall my hubby was born in!
