I've just put some seeds in to soak.
They are labelled "Barton on Sea" but I'm not sure what's special about them. DW picked them up at one of her gardening club events.
Hope it goes well for Mum tomorrow. Fairly straightforward outpatient thing if I remember Dad's correctly.0 -
Thanks for reminding me....:A I just have time to plant the tree lupins I've been soaking.

Well barton on sea int far from here and if they take forever to 'move' that sums up the 'elephants graveyard'the beach isn't too bad but I think a generation moved there to...... wait ! :rotfl:

Like Milford on Sea, where I used to take the kids on field visits, till they bulldozed the hotel to build more flats with big picture windows, essential for training telescopes on the ocean.
Perhaps the Grim Reaper comes by ferry? :rotfl:0 -
I drove behind 3 different numpties today ! First was a tractor that the driver must have had his hamilton eatabix for breakfast as he was taking corners at an angle that would make thorpe parke proud  second was an elderly person that needed a booster seat to see out of the window making it look like nobody was driving at all... third was a young lad that thought weaving / overtaking a row of well spaced cars across a straight forest road (40mph zone) on his motorbike, was clever till he encountered the speed trap vehicle at the end ..... which we all knew about..;) :j:rotfl:0

Damp and misty here this morning.
Builder was up on the roof yesterday - test will be when it next rains - lets hope it is fixed this time.
Been keeping an eye on the Perigrine Falcons here from a link in the Arms http://www.ntu.ac.uk/ecoweb/biodiversity/falcons/index.html

Yesterday, the Howdens rep showed considerable skills in steering my DW away from her preferred options in kitchen units and towards something much more in line with what I had in mind. I didn't say a word though!
He also addressed the problems we saw with the design the other guy had come up with, and that's after some months of to-ing and fro-ing.
So, possibly a good result....
We know we can't afford even a mid range German kitchen or a locally hand-crafted one, so whatever we have will be a compromise, but one that 'fits ' the property and makes us both reasonably happy would be nice.0 -
Morning! Kind of bright here, thankfully dry, but not that warm.
I have to say that bang for buck I love Ikea for kitchens, the cabinets are very good quality. The only problem is not living near one, if you forget a bit it's a long way to go, although a lot of their hardware etc is pretty standard with the big sheds now. We had their wood lookalike with the frame surround in our first place, a really old cottage, and for a cheap kitchen it looked the biz!
Not much to report here really, no newbies. Not making enough progress on the garden either considering the decent weatherbeen busy with other niff naff and trivia!
A couple out walking knocked my door at the weekend asking about bacon etc and were saying how they're looking for organic and or non grain fed, and or non gm etc. I tried to explain how I would do all that in an ideal world but the costs are prohibitive and the market is so small I have to compromise for now. She also asked about the killing, I explained what I could, but had to admit I hadn't seen it done at my abattoir. I didn't have anything to sell but said to keep in touch, and it got me thinking...
Well yesterday I was taking two pigs to the abattoir and I asked to see the slaughter room, and they let me, probably cos it was quieter than normal, we were last ones booked in. I followed one of my pigs in, it was quick, no stress, no fuss, exactly as it should be. Can't ask for better than that.
Not sure what I'm doing today, should be getting some seeds sowed, they've all arrived now I think, I'll get my potting bench in order I think.
It's either that or housework!0 -
Hi all
Had a lovely long weekend down in Brighton with DS & GF - won't call it relaxing as it was non-stop party central by our standards these days, lol :rotfl: Dropped dogs off at kennels en route so they had a little *holiday* for four days too......
Got in some retail therapy - although mainly house-y things (bed linen, V&B farmhouse sink, fabric etc) - and had an excellent meal at Silo (check it out), a zero-waste restaurant with amazing plates made out of recycled plastic bags (very Brighton) one evening
I also had a surprise gift (belated Birthday/Mother's Day) of four tickets to an open air production of Chekhov's The Seagull in June - we are all going to go.....hope the weather is better then
On Friday we went to Standen, the Philip Webb Arts & Crafts house in East Sussex, which was fab and we got some great inspiration for this place, especially in the garden which had areas very much like ours - although on a significantly grander scale, obviously!
Managed to squeeze in a visit to my mum in her nursing home too - she gets worse every time we visit, not even the *hole joke (a favourite as it was her former nickname for DH) raises a smile these days
Before leaving Brighton DS announced that they are getting a puppy, a Bedlington Whippet - very exciting, especially for DS as he's craved a pet for ages :j As his office is out in the sticks he plans to take it to work some days, plus his GF works from home when not in London for her Masters so hopefully little Wilbur will be ok......
Back to reality yesterday - damp, drizzly weather and a ton of work to catch up on. Drier today though, so hope to get some planting done later
Need to crack on inside too, as (on the subject of kitchens) ours is due to be delivered in less than two weeks. We've ordered from Handmade Kitchens in Christchurch - never used them before but have heard great things about them and we were most impressed when we visited their showroom last November. Can't wait!
Hope everyone is ok and keeping warm/dry.....thought Spring was on its way, but it's turned decidedly chilly again here.....

Last day of my holiday here in Guernsey. Weather not been the best, however a bit of sun today.
Thought of you the other day CTC when at a large garden centre - they were trying to entice us to buy Ranunculas!0
