:D most men cannot multi task ;). :rotfl: xxx

    Pft! What do you mean?

Look, I'm here piddling about on the computer & drinking tea, while DW thinks I'm filling holes in skirting boards etc. She's selling plants in the Village Hall, so she can't see what I'm up to.:p

    Now that's 'multi-tasking!' :D:D

CTC have you looked on ebay for stable doors...I want a 1930s front door and there are some lovely ones on ebay. Usually too far away for me to collect sadly, but worth a look?

Ours was the cheapest new online one. Big standard. Its bang next to out very beautiful made to fit doors. Its great. Good door furniture and paint are very good at improving. With a cheaper door, we recognise we'll have to paint very well, and never let wear set in. But its an economy i feel fine about.

CTC I feel you pain about things like ceiling heights. I also recommend plans being pinned on a wall somewhere there for tradies to refer to.
  • Oh what a PITA CTC! I don't think I should say too much, I am THE worst control freak ever, don't know how people put up with me, they must be top diplomats :D I usually try to find something to do nearby, as inobtrusively as possible, because I hate asking people to undo and re-do stuff. But I will if I have to.

OTOH builders have said at the end, "oh, now I can see why you wanted it like that, you obviously gave it a lot of thought". Well yeah!

That said, I can never quite understand why builders etc don't pick up the phone if they aren't sure, a lot of times they assume....I use some great guys but they just want to steam ahead, so I've learnt to be on hand ALOT!

That's not always possible though, so I like Alfie's suggestion!

With ceiling height was it something like size of plasterboard is 8' therefore the ceilings will be that high so they don't have to cut sheets doing the walls, which takes time, creates waste and therefore costs more?

I see their point but sometimes I want it to cost more damnit!!!

I guess builders will do things the cheapest way possible, must be ingrained, and that's what people want 99% of the time.

It's so frustrating, but can you live with it? I often think I can't but actually I'm so busy I do forget, and the niggling annoyance and frustration eventually goes.

Perhaps weigh up the cost/time factors against whether you just want to push on.

Well Mr Ferret saw the vet today, he was good as gold while she cleaned all round his eye. She thinks he may have already lost the sight in it but has given me some drops to clear up the infection. :A

I'll give him a bath and pedicure later and a bit of Advocate spot on for ear mites, then he'll be ready to meet the others. I think they should have a bath too, make a good first impression :D

DH sent me a link to a ferret website earlier, that was an hour of good gardening time out the window! :o

Good news re new Ferret FK :D

It's bloomin' cold here today, the wind is bitter. Old dog's ramp came earlier so she can get in and out of the car easily - she soon got the hang of it. Just as well, I was freezing my knickers off while she was viewing the new contraption with deep suspicion.:o:o

Mr BD bought me a bunch of daffs yesterday, and they are now making the room look happy and cheerful.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

the original doors with brace and something lol.. so I will try and find new ones like that, and put the old door latches on them, and the old style chunky hinges on them, I am 'toying' with the idea of staining them and doing some 'fake' worm holes etc

so after leaving the ranch, I had a mooch around Wyevale... flipping heck its it me or has prices of plants etc shot up????

now a few years ago you would never see trays of radish and beetroot as 'plug plants' etc.. so not only am I gobsmacked about that, I am also speechless that they are asking £3.99 for them!!! AND.. they are charging £1.99 for single strawberry plants..

Davesnave... hope mrs Davesnave does well today....

ooo ye and also they are now selling small pots of red clover for £2.49!!

Radish as plugs! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It's sad really, not funny, because it must mean that some twerps are buying them. :(

Mrs D did OK, I was up at the Hall with her to set up and pack away, so not really doing much skiving, especially as I chatted to several stall-holders on my way out.

One pair were very 'into' the same sort edibles as I am, but they process theirs to add value. So, they had chilli jam, chutneys and so forth, plus dried toms, apples etc. Also, they had unusual salad leaves that people could mix & match, so we compared mizunas. Mine had the distinct advantage of being alive, but as only one person bought a small tray of them, I'd guess even mizuna is going to be treated with some suspicion here, let alone some of the weird leaves this guy had! :undecided

He also had yacon and pickled cucamelons. I bought his wife's chilli jam. :D

Another person had come a long way with her pork sausages and bacon. Having tried a bit of sausage, I bought a pack, made from 85% pork ....just over 500g for £3.50. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I felt she needed bit of support. :)

In short, there was a really good, high quality selection of foods and crafts, but the customers were very thin on the ground.:( I know most stall holders will give it a few months, but it'll need to be better supported if it's to last.

maybe the footfall was a bit thin, because England were playing Scotland in rugby??

That sounds about right for the snorsages.. we charge £3.00 for ours which is just under 500gms, ( 7 snorsages)

ours are not 100% pork, as you got to take into consideration the seasoning etc.. ( the abotoir does ours, as they butcher, and do all the 'butchery' things to our meat, and vac pack and date it etc...

We supposed to have done a fair today, but we cancelled ( lost pitch money) as the builder could only fit our job in this weekend, as he has a total gut and refurb starting sometime next week..

I was so gobsmacked re- radish seedlings etc I took a picture lol..

I've been to the garden centre today and was about to purchase some raspberry canes when I read the instructions and it said not to plant where other raspberries have been......I've never heard that before. I have a gap and it needs filling. Any body heard that before?
