I think it something like 300mm??
will google and check
did see the wool blend stuff on b&q's website, think it was £18 a roll.. haven't got a clue how much the other stuff is, now I am more or less settled for the night, will mooch around the old interweb and find out more pricesWork to live= not live to work0 -
Corrrrr! It's freezing, I think we need to check our loft insulation:eek: I know it has been done, there's a certificate of some sort stapled to the rafters. And we had the cavity filled a couple of years ago. But it's still colder inside than out, or it seems like it. I get so cold if I come in for lunch, I could go to bed
but I just get back out and carry on!
There is a point at which more insulation doesn't make sense, the cost doesn't keep up with the savings, but I think Building regs are still a bit conservative. This is the biggest reason why we'll build our extension with straw bales, they exceed all the regs by a lot. If I could I'd wrap this house with them, but it's so close to the boundaries I just can't
These long days with a lot of fresh air are catching up with me, I'm knackered and will probably be in bed by 9.30 again tonight
The first lamb arrived Tuesday :T I think :undecided he was a big lamb and got stuck so I had to help mum, she was knackered bless. But they will start without me! When I'm not so tired I'll put a pic up
I've been waiting ages for what must be the next expectant mum, my goat Lily, she has an udder down to her ankles and spends most of the day lying down, she's as big as a house :rotfl: apparently last time she kidded it was literally the crack of dawn so I've been getting up to check her at 6.30 for over a week now. I'm feeling it!
And today I "acquired" another ferret :T he was found in a friends garden, trying to get into a rabbit hutch, obviously hungry, don't know if he would have had the rabbit  he is under weight but turns out he is another tame one, extremely well handled, but no one seems to be missing himI need to take him to the vet tomorrow, he's been in a scrap with something and one eye looks bad, though not a fresh injury.
This is what happens when people get to know you have certain animals, they make a bee line for you....or at least that's what I've told DHTruth is I offered a home the minute I heard about him
and now I have him I'm in love!

In the 90's where I lived I had a paddock full of pens/aviaries/mini stables etc for rescue stuff. I had over 100 ! From rabbits, poultry, ornamental pheasants, falcons, pygmy goat, south american prairie dogs and parakeets etc. Best arrival was a big tough looking farm lad who had a turkey under his arm who said tearfully if he could save ONE he felt better (xmas ) I had a blind ferret that I walked to the village for the newspaper. He had a specific route and if someone was stood enroute he'd just walk over their feet.... one obnoxious school boy (equally obnoxious hooray parents) on being told NOT to touch him promptly went to and ferret grabbed his trouser leg and hung on as boy screamed like a banshee. I did rescue him when I stopped laughing0

Not when I did it!
I used a real address, just someone else'sand filled it in like it was The Ranch.
Are you sure you aren't getting confused with solid wall insulation or something? There's no logical reason to exclude stone houses from free loft insulation at all, so far as I can see.
EDIT: I did it again, and the second time I had to give a telephone number and email, so maybe that was the bit you did and I didn't, first time around.
Still can't see what they'd have against stone walls.:(0 -

There's always one, isn't there? :rotfl:
When DD2 used to take Eric and Wilf to the park she'd tell teenagers and kids not to touch Eric, but they could safely stroke Wilf. It often happened that the teenage boys would ignore her.....:D
Ferret bites hurt like hell for 10 minutes, but their teeth are so sharp, it soon fades.0 -
THANKS Alfie... really appreciate you making the phone call,
Davesnave I readi t on mse.. re loft insulation.. so maybe I did get confused..( not taking much at mo)
couldn't sleep all last night, hubby and I had a bit of a set too, only made worse with the bombshell said this morning..
when they were doing the partition wall I said for the to leave the bedroom side un-boarded, so the electrics and insulation etc can be done from the bedroom side.. meaning the bathroom partition wall can be done, and we can start positioning the bath, airing cupboard etc in place and start plumbing things in, but when hubby came home he showed me pictures and they had boarded the bedroom side, so I went 'off' on one.. and then he tells me they got to get a diff type of board for the bathroom side anyway... to which my reply was, well why didn't you order and pick those boards up on Thursday, knowing I wanted that side done first??
when the builder came up to measure etc... we discussed it as though the ceiling was going to go back to the same height ( so I thought) when I went there yesterday I said why is the ceiling higher, and they said it was a standard height .. then I got distracted with the window man turning up... now that I have slept.. ( or not) I want the ceiling back to the original height as it is NOT a standard house... I have already compromised on the height of the doors being made higher. so hubby doesn't bang is head lol.. so this would mean everything being re- done..
am I being too picky?? sentimental about things?? is their logic for the ceiling being higher a good reason to keep te ceilings higher than they were??
just feel like crying...
its the same with the bloody fencing.. I wanted the first fence ( on the footpath ) high, but nope they put it standard height ( and hubby was there over seeing that too) ..Work to live= not live to work0 -
It's easy to get over fussy about any kind of building work CTC. Ceiling height, for example, might be better proportioned if the doors are going to me taller than the originals. The acid test is whether you think you'll notice after living with it for a month.
If something costs extra money because it must be altered, that's different, and it's where project management comes in. Fortunately, our builder is good at looking ahead like that so he'd have the foil-backed plasterboard on site before he needed it etc. etc.
But everyone has their foibles. Our guy was very attentive about aspects of soundproofing when we showed him what we wanted, but his understanding of the physics isn't great and he failed to do it properly. I didn't think I should be trying to 'teach' him, so in the end we just accepted a compromise.0 -

Ah, but given time, those roses will grow high!
Speaking of which, I have been confusing Mr Dog along the bit of road hedge where he pulled-out all my beech saplings. I've put all the branches of blackthorn we've trimmed off along there, so he has no way of knowing what's under them.
He can pull them all off if he likes, 'cos actually there's nothing.....yet! :rotfl:0 -
Ctc.... I can understand your stressed but I see daves point... with taller doors the gap between door/ceiling is prob similar to original. Look on it as ''done''. And any work is a step forward so try not to run backwards
also is it so bad you need to spend again
most men cannot multi task ,try getting a white board and draw a room map, putting instructions / ideas in each room and put it at eye level next to the kettle
. :rotfl: xxx
