Finally secured some time :j:j:j just heading out to the garden now to get some bulbs planted and other things moved about. I bet it starts to rain any minute now :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Starts? Hasn't stopped here this week.
.
We're have ing a last late flush of marigolds and nasturtiums. Hoping enough seed is left to germinate and fill those troughs for next year without any help. In a crack in the concrete by the base of them is a cheeky little self seeded viola from the violas I had in there last spring when I first planted them up. I am enchanted by it and delighted my yard weeding has been so lax now ( I also hate pulling up chamomile from the yard...if there are flowers in the cracks I don't mind. Brambles, nettles and stuff is a pain.. Tbh it all makes it hard to sweep though.0 -
Weather here seems pretty much breezy with sunshine and heavy showers for the foreseeable future. :undecided
We have rigged up the tarpaulin over the scaffolding now to make a sort of tent, under which we hope to work when it rains. That's if it doesn't blow away. :rotfl:Glad it's mild, as the kitchen has no roof tiles yet, so when cooking it's like being in a big tent. That's only 'big cooking,' we have another snack kitchen in Dave's Den.
The scaffolders were mainly very good, but they didn't think through our request for a pulley pole, so we had to re-locate that to a sensible place before we could get some blocks up this afternoon. It'll be great to see the new gable go up, but first some fancy lead work has to be done around the chimney.
Somebody delivered some Terram fabric today to the barn, so I guess this means Mr Rod will be back soon......0 -
hi all.... sh*te weather here.... i am actually :mad:... i was 0ut on the forest with my 2 dogs this evening [well 5-6pm] and was training the 2 likkle ones [boss's sons] quite happily when suddeny through this narrow gorse bordered path came two HUGE horses with riders going a fast canter ... i dived aside and shoved old gal out the way, dragging 2 likkle ones with me but poor bimble got tumbled by a hoof :mad:.... one horse went a bit ballistic and nearly unseated the rider , she yelled at ME to get my dogs !! i wont repeat before the watershed what i replied .. they then took off again ?? no apology, no concern for bimble  i checked him and he seems none the worse for ware [hes often shoved by my hoss's]. what worries me is that that could have been old gal !! i would have commited assault if it had !! what if it had been a child or an older person ! they had no clear vision and it was half light.... sorry , rant over
i WILL see them again...........

Alfie... YES you will meet them again.... give them hell,
Cant remember I I said, took one of the piglets to the vets on Monday, as it had 2 huge lumps on him....hubby took him, and the vet said it was fluid, he seringed some out to make sure it wasn't an infection, and it was just clear fluid... so he thinks when mum was was a bit stressed in the beginning, she might have stepped on him.. as he said he is fine... the lumps are slowly going down, and he is running around like a loonie lol..
The other mammy to be is huge, so not long now before more little piggles are here..
Rhiwie.. I am really sorry to hear the news of your MIL..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh Alfie how awful! Im glad he is ok, some people can be so inconsiderate.
CTC Good news about the piglet
I am very tired following an afternoon in the garden. Although it doesn't look much different I actually got loads done. The flower beds were weeded and the herb bed tamed leaving lots of space for planting next year. Most of the pots were cleared and bulbs potted up. Dave what do I do with the Dahlias and when?
There is still quite a lot to be done but the weather is going to turn foul tomorrow so I am not sure when I will get out to get it done, if at all this year.
Still trying to clear a lot of clutter and raise some pennies while I am at it. So far it is not going wellTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Gorgeous day here again - really beautiful & all the trees turning gold & red & the leaves coming off a bit now.
Went over East & had a day away - need to do that at least one day a week at this time of year. An indulgance, but get the shopping in & do other stuff.
Sorry to hear of your MIL Rhiw - My Mother died a couple of years back after years of suffering from it - It's a nasty disease that robs everyone.
Let's have a link to your website if I may. The bay has been rather slow & I keep meaning to look at doing a website, but I wouldn't know where to start.
Glad that the building officer was understanding Dave- here they are like the Stazi sp?
Forgot that this is the time of year you dress up in woman's clothing....in public isn't it? Goodness....you have a very understanding wife.
We've had a massive warship in the Loch & some jets screaming over - well..... 2 jets. There's an excercise on. Looks really strange.
The deer ar e all bellowing being in rut - it bounces of the hills does the noise, quite eerie really.0 -

We are lucky with the planners here. They are pretty relaxed once they see that you are doing what Westcountry folk call a 'proper job.' There's still a lot of improper jobs going on!
OTOH, if one wants to get an agricultural tie lifted here, it's a different story. Parish and district council will just oppose automatically on the grounds that these places are needed, regardless of the fact that many are occupied illegally. They certainly wouldn't thank anyone who pointed out a breach to them, as enforcement is unknown here. Case in point is near neighbours; both disabled and wouldn't know the back end of a cow from the front!
It's a different story where the rest of our family live; draconian planners, conservation areas, the works, but ties lifted to reflect different times and circumstances. Local government needs a bit more consistency.
Panto isn't till February. Might be a bit tricky this year, making costumes, as we'll be running out of house , having much of it 'under development' by then. :eek:0 -
Alfie, I think when some people get on a horse, it's much the same as when the same sort get behind the wheel of a big vehicle; they compensate for their inadequacies at other times.
Unlike the big vehicle driver, someone on a horse has no number plate, so even more feelings of immunity. Bet loads are uninsured too.
Our builder's wife is still driving a car with a blooming great dent in the front and bonnet, though that was caused not by a horse, but a runaway bull. Still the same kind of problems and slowness getting redress, however. Isn't right.
Dahlias, Rummer. Don't do what I did and put them all in a compost in a dustbin with a tight lid!:o They may sweat, and if one 'goes' they all go!
Just lift & dry them, bury them in almost dry compost and don't put a lid on. Keep them in a frost-free garage or outhouse and look at them very occasionally to see they are still plump and not mouldy.0 -

Recently acquired a photo album of the Berlin Airlift back in 1948/9. The Russian War memorial had this inscription (with obligatory tank and field gun for adornment).
