    Alfie - you've used the C word.

Zombie film I liked was about two guys who do gory take offs of things. It was quite funny too. I can't remember the name.

How do I get Sky for 3.

    Where's everyone today???

My dahlia's are still flowering, do I need to dig them up now as it is so wet?.

I was working with Mr Rod all day, so I was too tired to post! :o He decided that all the stuff we had here from demolition etc would be as good as stone from a quarry if we broke it up more, so the morning was spent smashing breeze blocks with a sledgehammer, loading stuff into a trailer and depositing it in the big hole.

Then, in the afternoon, I grovelled around, rounding up more stone while the long trench was dug (away from the stream this time!) That was filled with chippings and protected with Terram.

It might work, most of the time, but I don't think any of these solutions works for ever and certainly not in the conditions we've seen in the last two winters. However, have to make the best of it for now. Also discovered that a leak from next door is now official, despite earlier denials .... so if that's sorted.....

In other news, we are now building the front gable walls, so hopefully there won't be a gaping hole in the front of the house for too much longer and phase 1 will be complete.

I was all for going into hibernation mode at that point, but DW wants to press on. It will be OK if we limit ourselves to working on one end, but going ceiling-less anywhere we are living is out, or we will just be trying to heat the universe! :rotfl:

Trouble with the warmish weather we are getting atm is that wet weather comes with it. Maybe we've all been spoilt by the long summer.

Choille, was it Shaun of the Dead?

Talking about dark episodes Doctor Who on Saturday was a bit scary for our GDs, reminds me how I felt when I watched Quatermass and the aliens had been sleeping in the corner of the bedroom, it had me scared of going to bed for weeks.

We used to watch Dr Who from behind the sofa; well usually two sitting down sometimes and two definitely behind the sofa for the whole programme.

On holiday today, but still feeling impacted by cold/cough after two weeks

Also, went to collect the bins and found glass bin was missing - I assume it fell into the lorry as no-one around here would take it as a 'joke'.

Just looking at the info on the storm coming across the Atlantic, I'm due to be travelling to London next Monday so could well do without the extra aggro of trees coming down on the wires.

ANyway, it's being so cheerful that keeps my going :D
I'd love to see some of you Felix femina.

Better late than never...this is the shadiest part of garden. Japanese rush on the right, viburnum shrub and tree is a twisted willow

The tin drum with the violas holds the "layer-cake" of different spring bulbs.

Caught my head on a roller shutter door at the auction today, not recommended. Helped up, a bit dazed and feeling rather foolish and they kindly helped me pack the lots won, making sure I didn't keel over! Looking at a sea of wrapped buys atm, still got a very heavy antique brass bed in the car to be unloaded. As impulse buys go that's a beaut! In the meantime the rose beds have been cut back and weeded and roses are to be moved to nursery beds while new beds are made for them. Front beds to have low planting to avoid blocking light.

I have spoken, Thank you. As always, I am humbled by the order in your garden. They look great there. :). You do great combinations. :)

I saw something red leafed the other week, cannot remember what, maybe beech, but don't think so, with honey suckle, nothing fancy, something like belgica, in front of it and this simple combination was startlingly good. I've thought about it a lot since.
  • AWWW that must have hurt Rhiwie..!!!

Rhiwie I hope you are no worse the wear for your bump.

IHS I do so love your garden and the combinations you put together! I have wondered if you were always a gardening enthusiast or if this is a recent thing? What do you think of the books you were reading?

Dave Thank you for the dahlia advice, do I need to wait until they have died back or should I be cutting them back?

Alfie How is Bimble? You really do deserve a holiday!

LIR I am looking forward to us comparing notes on our herb gardens next year :D

I have been busy planning and scheming as always :rotfl: Sales on gumtree have picked up a bit so I will need to dig up a whole pile of things to sell. Every little helps :D I also started my Christmas shopping and I am tickled pink with the items I have found so far :D
