I need some DIY advice and I thought I would ask in here before venturing onto the other boards :D

The walls in our house are scary tough to drill into however once the drill breaks the surface the wall behind crumbles leaving a hole that is too big. What do we do to prevent that as we want to put up a curtain rail however we now have quite a few holes in the wall :o
sounds a bit like my old house.. sandstone [i think] bricks .... soft as sh**. i used a SLOW drill on a small drill bit. make sure your drill isnt on "hammer" mode as the vibration will loosen mortar. if all else fails use a STRONG filler in your holes and sink the raw plug into the correct place. put a bit of paper tape over bottom end of LONG raw plug so filler doesnt go in it. let it set. make sure your positions are accurate tho. ive just had to do this at my mums but hers was opposite. soft outer , rock hard lintel behind ! i actually used car filler... it went rock hard in seconds tho so after a lot of swearing and ninja moves, i managed it and ..... its stayed up :T

You need to ID the materials your wall is made from, if possible. Then ask.

Or maybe use an undersize drill?

Otherwise, something like this works in just about everything, but it isn't cheap and doesn't store for long periods once opened:

Besides, I still feel poo. Bloomin flu jab!

But it's now't a couple of paracetamol won't disguise. I have to go out and get a wheel off the car, as it has a puncture. I won't blame the building yet, but having picked up hundreds of nails already....

So, wind picking up in more ways than one, CTC. smiley-ashamed005.gif Let's keep our fingers crossed it won't be long. :)

Gosh, how quiet it is in Daydream Land! :shhh:

We had a quiet day here too, but in the afternoon Pete suddenly appeared and asked if we wanted our field hedges cut, as he 'just happened to be passing.' It was good to see him, especially as he looked well, and he promised to return soon with some logs.:D He's going to take down some of the roadside ash trees too. Far from dropping dead from chalara fraxinia, they're threatening the double decker the insane bus company have recently put on this route, usually to carry 5 people! :rotfl:

Lila showed her true mettle today, not only turning into an incredibly scary toilet brush when a tabby cat came into the garden, but also accompanying DW and me in a long walk around the boundaries, when 'bounding' was exactly what she did. It was like having a dog, but one that could scale 2 metre fences just for fun and devilment. She did three without pausing.

Izzy is also extremely agile, but far too nervous to invade the chickens' personal space or go for long perambulations in unknown territory. Instead, she decided to climb the conservatory's rendered wall. We thought she'd gone loopy, but then out fluttered a long eared bat, which we'd last seen when the lead was removed around the house chimney. This bat had been roosting between the old, damaged lead and the roofing felt, so we'd no idea it was there, and we'd no chance to save it's 'home' either.:(

I caught the bat before Izzy could harm it. It was liberated down in the big barn, where it fluttered up into a corner of the roof. We know there are bats down there, thanks to the big piles of moth wings they leave! :)

Have you got over your flu jab grottieness Dave? Every year I dither about having one, but conclude as I hardly go out it isn't worth it.

I used to have a cat - a wonderful chap called Felix, who would come out on walks with us when we walked the dog over the fields at the back.

The current two are far too nervous to do that but they do 'come when called'. The traffic picks up through the village at 'rush hour' so I try to get them in between 3.30 and 4pm. I stand in the garden and call and they come rushing over NDN fence - his garden is larger and much more inviting than ours. I bribe the kitties with Dreamies which I suspect is much more of an attraction than my company :D:D Don't care as long as it works.

Yesterday I planted up some wall tubs with trailing viola's which I haven't tried before, and some winter pansies. Will post some piccies later. The summer tubs now needs re-planting too, although the fuchias are still looking good.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Nope. :( However, it's just aches and pains which can be masked, so not a big problem.

I'm like you most of the time, but I do go to meetings etc, so I conclude it's worth it. This didn't happen last year, anyhoo.

Our Daisy didn't go far in her later years, but when five of us did that boundary walk last year, she suddenly decided to join us and walked the whole way as if she'd always done it. She died just a month or two later....It was like that was something on her bucket list! :)

Something I miss here is somewhere to walk with cats that dogs don't join us. Pink whistley goes all over , but not with off lead dogs. Here our road is too busy to walk along it and have a cat just pop up.

I really miss our old road!

Just had the parents of one of my eBay purchasers arrive to collect the doors I sold him.

Probably the most grumpy, ill-mannered old gits I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. :(They had a huge estate car, which I was informed was "only 2 days old," and "these bloody doors better not damage it, or I'm chucking them out!"

She stood there smoking roll-ups and telling him to "think it through."

Think it through? You coulda got a six piece band and all their kit in it! :rotfl:

Anyway, I had their money, so I went inside for a cuppa. When I came out again, they, and the doors, had gone. :D

Think I'll leave feedback "Great eBayer, but appalling parents." :p
