Windy here, a bit noisy but leccy on. Hope everyone's ok. Nothing planned for today so will be adding product to Bay and site. Will also have a make do and mend session, a better look at the old bed reveals it has curtain fittings so it may be a half tester. Will attempt to assemble the end panels and fittings later. The bed irons can stay in the garage for the time being

In the meantime my lifeguard companion seems follically challenged and requires a horsehair transplant!

Windy but not horrific here. I have to take a cat to the vet this morning so I'm looking out into the black morning trying to decide whether to go back route ( through trees ) or main roads ....worst traffic jams in area.

I reckon all the trees must have fallen last year.

Loud, and a bit scary when the scaffolding creaks, but then tying an 8 x 5metre tarpaulin to that and the house was always going to create a bit of noise!

It all seems to be there anyway, and we haven't blown away to a fresh location. :)

Underneath the 'tent,' erected over the roof and scaffold, our builder completed the inner leaf of the front gable wall yesterday, despite the on/off rain. He will start on the outer leaf today. So glad we put in our own hoist for the blocks. :D

In the calm weather yesterday, I began re-filling the tank with the oil we have stored in plastic dustbins and other containers. Tedious task, as I decided to filter it too, but added around 150 litres. About 100 more to go, but not in today's wind! :(

Hope you are all safe in the winds.......and you and your tarp haven't blown away Dave

Quiet here in the East although the rain woke me at 3am.
One possible explanation for not working with a gravity system is that these roomstats fire the boiler for varying durations to work out how quickly room comes up to temp but not overshoot the set temp. The rate a gravity system heats up may confuse this process.

Thanks IHS, for suggesting this, not something anyone has suggested as a potential problem either by Salus or the installer, but both seem to be making it up as they go along. The reason we were given for the incompatibility was the absence of a valve for the HW part of the system. Salus have refused to advise whether it could be used for CH only and the installer is stubbornly saying 'it can't be done'.

The old programmer is off the wall and I can see there are only 3 wires, a split blue, a red and a green/yellow - how hard can it be??? Its only a boiler not a nuclear power station.

As FK says the difficulty is getting the installer to 'think outside the box'. I think I will have a more productive day opening my chooks beaks and looking for teeth :(:( Mr BD and I have decided to get another installer in to look at it for us. If he mentions the problem that you suggested IHS at least I will know it is genuine!!

On the first morning following Mr Rod's repair of next door's faulty toilet valve, there was nothing flowing in the run-out when I looked in there at 08.10.

Can't remember when that was last the case. ;)

    :T Hurrah!:T

I know you probably won't name them for obvious reasons, but if you did they could be Crash, Bang, Wallop, Creak and Whoo!.... etc.

Not sure what our builder is doing up there just now, but I wouldn't be laying too many blocks in this gale. I will try to persuade him to do something inside, I think. He just wants to lessen the 'ventilation' in the kitchen, I think. Only a few blocks to go....:)

Windy here too now, sounds worse as trees still have most of their leaves. Chickens looking rather 'ruffled' but they prefer the wind to the rain.

How's the 'ventilation' in your kitchen now Dave? Certainly plenty of fresh air about today ;)

Exciting news re the pigglies CTC, looking forward to the photo's.

Got a meeting with the NHS on Thursday with the patient group, really must start reading some of the paperwork......

    That's fine now; all closed-off. :)

But we had a bit of a panic when a big gust straightened the metal hooks on the bungees and the tarpaulin made a bid for freedom. Fortunately, the gusts died at that point, so I went up the roof and re-bent them, fixing them back to the big bent nails we have them on.

Trouble is, the wind's from west- north- west, which means it's racing down our tarpaulin-covered tunnel, instead of passing over us as it's usually done. :(

I'm now putting up the external blocks, which are not aerated concrete like the inner leaf, so very heavy. DW can't manage them, so I have to do them one by one up the ladder! They were the ones intentionally left over from our barn building work, when we bought a lorry load because it was cheaper. We haven't bought many blocks, because a friend had quite a few of the light ones left over from an extension and just wanted rid....The van does come in useful! :D

We are doing OK, but over in the little town, someone bought a Woolaway bungalow at a bargain price, put the roof on supports and knocked all the walls out. Now they have rebuilt with a factory-made timber frame from the trading estate. Total build time, including the interior: 6 weeks!

    Now that's fast! :rotfl:

Sounds like you are in danger of a Devonian version of 'Up' ;) Hope no more freedom bids made today. My mini greenhouse may well make it's own bid despite being held down with bricks.

How are the knees Dave after lugging those blocks up a ladder? I love the idea of building a house in 6 weeks. Do you watch Grand Designs? Some of them are just plain daft with people with more money than sense but there are also some which are divine. There was one in our village a few years ago - a medieval guildhall which was originally thought to be a cattle barn IIRC.

Very windy here again now. Mr BD just went to shut the chickens up and for the first time since January we were one down. So been scuttling round the garden on a 'chuck hunt'. Found the silly creature hunkered down under the grape vine. It's a bloomin' cold wind too, I was shivering after only a couple of minutes.
