£73.51 added, got paid today, have to budget really well the rest of this month...
Having tonight to sort my presents list out...eeek!
Have promised myself I won't be dipping in to the savings for themJanuary 2025 - Debt £20,0060 -
Congratulations to everyone who has put anything into their emergency pot at this expensive time of year:T
I've made a start myself! Opened a savings account with my current account provider. Will get a miniscule amount of interest(if I keep anything in there long enough:p) but can access it 24/7 as many times as I like with no penalties. The ideal situation for online Tilly Tidies:j. As it will probably be needed to dip into regularly( it is an emergency fund after all and my life is full of mini financial emergencies:o) it seemed the best solution for now.
Still nothing in it but will transfer a few oddments over from my current account this morning. I feel strangely excited:rotfl:0 -
Oh patman sorry to hear about your job.
I have been kinda avoiding this place cos my debt seems to be creeping up which it has a habit of doin at this time of year.
Will sort it all out & make a plan as of January 2015.
I have managed to up my emergency fund to £50.00 so another £950.00 to go!

Carboot...I find it's the small transfers that suddenly add up to be honest. Especially when they are small enough not to miss. I've been using YNAB and anything I haven't spent in that month's budget gets moved over (end of last month I had leftover petrol money so in it went as I allocate the same amount in each month's beudget when I get paid). You don't notice it so much but you do notice it when your savings suddenly start growing
Dolly, this is a tough time of year for sure. I think it's the first year ever that I haven't used any form of credit to pay for Christmas since I've had credit avaiable to me (so about 15 years!!!).Debt free since May 20150 -

Same here! YNAB is just great, isnt it?Debt Free - October 20220 -
Thanks, stiltoncheese. Good advice as ever:T
Will definitely be checking out YNAB, seems to be mentioned a lot on MSE, and I see redlaces has just approved of it too.
I'm sorry to say I'm a bit of a Luddite when recording/tweaking finances. I like the old-fashioned habit of pen and notebook:o but if YNAB looks easy to use and clear to see what's happening to my money I'll probably give it a try.0 -
carboot I love to write things down too & I cannot wait till 2015 to start a new diary to keep a record of everythinggggggggggggggg.
Next Christmas I will not be using a single credit card to buy presents.
Its time for change.

Can't recommend YNAB enough. It's basically just an envelope system so I only have 1 actual physical savings account but YNAB allows me to categorise things out as though they are in different accounts so I know what money is available for what at any given time.
I do like writing things down too though,and I'm a list queen!!!Debt free since May 20150 -
I'm hoping for a PC headset for Christmas so I can create a load of 'how-to' videos for uploading to Youtube.
Once Monday & Tues. morning are out of the way, I will be sorting my day in to a quick jobsearch in the morning, followed by 3 hours hard surveying on vivatic, then another quick jobsearch before heading back to the surveys again.Never Knowingly Understood.

Hope it's not too late to join? Just getting my act together and hopefully with my no spend 2015 I will be able to do this challenge as well as pay my DS the little bit I owe him.0
