Sorry to hear that too MessyBetty. Will it be expensive to have fitted properly?[/QUOTE]

Hi Stiltoncheese thanks for asking the chimney sweep gave me a number for a fitter and advised I call him for a quote, a guy at work said he had a top of the range liner fitted and it cost him £1000  we don't use the burner much so will go for a middle of the road liner, the burner needs removing then re fitting and some made to measure steel sheet which will take me close to that figure if not more:(

On a slightly better note I requested a refund of £300 from my energy supplier today so that will boost my EF I shouldn't have let it build up that high:o

Well done youngbusinessman you are well on your way, £500 before Christmas would be fantastic best wishes with that goal.

Well savers I'm off to sort some items to sell
    EF #40 £250/£1000 Sep PAD 26/30 £700/£700😀 Oct PAD 1/31 £300/£500
    Debt free date Dec 2016
  • That's really tough, MessyBetty. I hope you can get it all sorted soon.

There have been several posters on this thread who have had emergencies this past week or so, with cars (as in my case and that of several others) and more serious events like your chimney and patman99 losing his job. Just goes to show what a brilliant idea it was of patman99 to start a thread about building up an emergency fund. We've all learned the hard way how essential one is:(. Getting the money together to build up an emergency fund is another matter though, it's just so hard to do.

    Good Luck:beer:

Thanks for the support folks. I got told Tuesday and within an hour of getting home, managed to apply for 6 jobs.

Tonight I only applied for 2, but also applied for one for MrsP as she has all the skills they require, so hopefully one of us will be back in work soon.

Went to the credit union and made my first deposit of £14. Feeling quite positive about it. Have promised myself to put in some money each week, even if it's only a couple of quid.
Hope that you manage to find work soon Patman xxx

  • Just checking bank accounts and noticed my emergency fund was at an uneven £367.25. Hate uneven numbers so have transferred £2.75 from my main account to round it up to £370.

Silly I know, but I won't miss the £2.75 as it's such a small amount so may as well have a nice even number in my savings.

I've noticed you've mentioned the credit union before, pozza. I keep meaning to check out my local one, I like the idea of saving without the banks getting a cut from my efforts;).
