Anyway, sad news in the Patman house this week as my M-in-L died today. This means I am going to need to save for a black suit and white shirt for the funeral.

So sorry to read about M-in-L, patman. Condolences to your wife and yourself.

I attended the funeral of a close friend last week and it was the first funeral I've attended in years where anyone had ever expressed a wish for mourners to wear sombre clothing. Nowadays people tend to be more relaxed about that sort of thing. Even at this one, people were in dark colours but certainly not black.

What I'm getting at is, do you have to have a black suit that you'd probably never wear again? Do you already have a dark, sober-looking suit that you could wear? I can appreciate though that as one of the main mourners you'll want something appropriate.

My F-in-L has stated that as 'she' is not there to complain, dress code for funeral will be casual.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts from you all.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, peaceful thoughts to you and your FIL as well.

If you're still accepting, may I join the challenge? Used up all my savings last year and want to restart building an EF by having £1,000 minimum as a buffer on my current account.

Patman sorry to hear of you lost and hope everything is going as well as can be expected.

I am ramping up getting my EF in place. Got a bit of a scare with a call from the taxman. They did not have my correct address - sorted now so onwards and upwards we go.

Have paid £500 into my emergency fund so now stands at £577/£1000

Hoping to get this finished next week - need to tackle some other pressing issues that are going to come up after EF is completed.
