Hi Stereochild, well done on reaching the goal:j onward and upward to the next milestone.:)

Patman great things are coming together for you at last:)

carbootcrazy think I could write your script! I havent posted for awhile as aside from being rushed off my feet, nothing much to report. Cut the budget to the absolute bare bones ( and it was pretty slim before) in order to replace my car in the next month or so, assum ing it lasts that long.
The car has been such a constant source of anxiety for so long I am looking forward to retirement when I can just ride my bike:j

Anyway thanks everyone for sharing your progress, always a pleasure to read:T

Nice one stereochild. I see you are looking to go for 3 months of your out-goings as your next step.

Me thinks you might be on the verge of starting a sister challenge called 'The 3 months of outgoings fend'.

Will be checking my bank balance later as I get paid on Tuesdays.

  • Some good news for a change. Well, not totally good as it still involves having to plunder my EF but not by as much as I was dreading.

Thanks to all the scaremongers who I told about my car trouble I was expecting to have to fork out for a replacement gearbox:eek:. This brilliant mechanic that OH knows who lives near us popped round on Monday afternoon and gave the car a good check-over. Seems it was 'just' perished/leaking seals and loss of fluid:j. He's already fixed it and is currently doing a service on the car. Ashamed to say I never have one done:o, (OH checks the oil, tyres, water etc) and I just wait until something goes wrong, but it's false economy with an old car. This mechanic is 'old-school' and has a small one-man business. Highly recommended by everyone who uses him and I don't feel I'm being ripped off. I hate taking my car into garages as a rule, I feel mechanics see a woman driver and just see ££££££ signs:eek:

Not sure of total cost yet but nothing like what I was expecting, even with a service added:j

    Happy money-saving everyone:beer:

    Yay!! :j Great news! :D

 OMG  really false economy on ANY car  even a basic service once a year can put years on a car...... not doing one and waiting for stuff to go wrong costs more in the long term

How often do you change the oil / filter?

Please tell me you get that done at least once a year ...... it's so beneficial for the engine and protects it from damage / keeps it running smoothly (and can therefore prevent many things going wrong!)

I agree with every word you said. I know what I should do but I still don't do it:o. Maintenance costs have never been possible in my budget for several years.

OH checks the oil and says the oil on the dipstick is always clean. He just tops it up as needed (hardly ever needs any:j). Can't remember when a new oil filter was fitted, years and years ago:o. He also checks for tyre-wear etc and for water. It still sails through MOTs without even any advisories (except this year when exhaust was 'blowing' slightly). I know they don't test for lots of things but what they do test for is OK.

Anyway, it's had a service now so that should see me through for a bit.

Hi all, sorry have been absent for so long, and I'm sorry that this post is to let you know I'm withdrawing from this challenge. I've taken out a funeral plan and the payments I am to make over the next 2 years mean that I am unable to save for this challenge as well as the others I am doing. Thanks for all the friendliness and encouragement you've given me though. All the best to you all and good luck with your savings
