I know what you mean re: insurers. My parents asked me to renew their home insurance with their current provider (my dad is hard of hearing, so using the phone is hard work for him).
I did a quick search and found that their insurer was listed on TCB, so clicked through and renewed.
My mum has a few disability aids that the insurer did not have covered, so added them and a few other bits. The total cost was 50% lower than their renewal quote. On top of that, they got £50 in shopping vouchers and I got £26 in cashback. Win-win all round.
Next up will be dad's car insurance.

No. 108 here, had to use a little bit of the fund this month as last two weeks been on jury service and have had to pay for travel expenses which will be refunded hopefully soon. Also did a big shop and treated myself to a bottle of wine and a classy mag to recover. Yesterday was the 1st so my normal standing order of £25.00 went over into the EF. I also rounded my current account down to the nearest £5 so I transferred another £1.28 over
