Haven't posted for a few days. No more NSD's- spent £3 on Thurs and £1.60 on a charity donation yesterday.
Have caught the nasty cold bug big time... but still refusing to put the heating on. It was warm yesterday anyway, and today is meant to be 20 degrees down here in London.
Haven't yet thought about Christmas presents. Luckily, have never done presents with my side of the family, but DH's side insist on spending minimum £20 per person (we are all adults and neither we nor his siblings have children yet). I don't see the point! I understand that Christmas can be a magical time with children excitedly running around, but DH's parents do make such a big deal of it with all the kids being late 20's-mid 30's, plus any OH's!!
Well, I've been asked to make a list for us both to hand in so his mum can distribute who buys what. I could just buy everything on my list myself!! So, a) it won't be a surprise what I get anyway, and b) it's quite likely something I don't particularly want as now that I'm a grown, working adult, I can buy the things I want myself!! Dah!!

A SFD yesterday, hoping for another today but need some veg for more WW soup so will have to buy today or tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow, and will go to L!dl where my money definitely goes further. Have about £20 left of food budget til I get paid on 28th - was hoping to stretch budgets to 31st to make my YNAB nice and neat, but suspect won't last to payday. Still, have £55 of cash left at this point which would have been unheard of a few months ago.....
Samiszel, how frustrating your DH's family Xmas gifting sounds! At least you get what you would buy anyway rather than something useless, so you can at least offset your own gift purchases against them. Hope you feel better soon.
PheoniX, sorry you had such a big spend with your boiler, though at least you should have peace of mind if the Arctic winter some are forecasting actually materialises.
Have a good weekend everyone.#21 Save £12k in 2025 £16977.35/£20000

Hi guys and gals.
Been a variable couple of days. Yesterday was a spend-free day so that brings me up to 11.
However, November is a very expensive month so I have only paid £200 off my credit card as I need money for my MOT, service, registration (mandatory for my job) and I need 2 new tyres as they are bordering on illegal.
The plan is that whatever doesn't get spent will go onto the credit card repayment next month.
This just highlights the need for savings so that I can pay for "surprise" expenses (you know the ones that come round every year but still seem to surprise me).
:undecided
luckystarr - The pot was on this forum, the debt-free wannabe challenges section. It is £365 in 365 days challenge.
Basically, you put away £1 a day. My OH also put in £1 a day. It works out at £28 - £31 a month each.
We kept ours as a xmas fund but I think next year we are going to do two pots at £1 a day and have one for xmas and one for our festival.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

Hi guys.
Had a blissful morning - Jelly slept in until after 9am from 6pm last night!I didn't go to bed until LATEEE though so it was welcome. She then decided to take my phone off back to her bed, climbed in under the duvet and played on cbeebies until 11. And then came in to bounce on the bed with me to some raucous music
now we are showered and debating a day out. If I go anywhere it is for a walk on the beach and a welly stomp in the Autumn leaves. Not taking my purse
so SFD #13 today. Realistically I think I can manage another 4 between tomorrow and Thursday so will have hit my target before my super spendy trip to Nottingham on Thursday. I doubt a single SFD will happen whilst there
I like the idea of Christmas pots. I find it hard to make my savings FOR something... They are savings. I struggle to spend them and it seems like the switch in mindset required to actually spend some of them is what makes it so hard for me to not go overboard and spend far too much. Does that even make sense?
Anyways off to enjoy the rest of my day. Come on everyone! On Yer Bike!!xx

Another SFD (almost) in the bag - DH taking us all out for dinner later, but his treat so no spends planned. Hope you've all had a good day, especially you after starting with a lie in Lilt!#21 Save £12k in 2025 £16977.35/£20000

Evening all
Feeling very proud of a hard earned SFD today. Had lots of errands to run which involved going in and near many shops and spending temptations, however I searched and found free parking and resisted all temptations to spend
Also saw family and had a lovely long walk in the countryside with OH and three of the dogs which was lovely and good for the soul. I had another declutter - floor to ceiling bathroom cupboard, which I also cleaned top to bottomSo feeling very virtuous and got rid of lots of empty bottles and items that I have no idea why I would ever have kept.
Having a few stressful issues with OH at the moment and it has left me feeling down, even though I know I am right, how does he always make me feel like I am the one in the wrong. Sorry to rant, please feel free to stop reading. Basically, OH is horrendous at managing his money and sometimes spends his entire pay packet (after I have taken the bill and mortgage money) within 7/8 days of getting it. He then borrows from me or uses my credit card as he cannot get credit himself. I wouldn't mind if it was the odd occasion or for something important, but it is now constant every month, and it is so stressful (I am a natural stress head anyway). This evening was the usual, he asked to borrow more money and I quizzed him why he needed it, and he managed to make me feel like I was in the wrong for not wanting to help him. He has now promised to not ask for any money next month, even though I know he will have no money at the start of the month as he has to pay me back for his holiday money. I am hoping next month will be different, and he will keep his promise.

hi all
PhoeniX sorry to hear about your expense on the boiler
Stewby Thank you for the information I will go and look for the thread.
Fmess don't be sorry for ranting . it helps to air it as I am stress head too and it would make me worse if I couldn't get it off my chest. Has OH tried or thought about dividing what's left into weeks so your OH has money to last. please ignore me if this does not help.
Managed a SFD and a session at the gym .. and been at work phew.. aiming for another SFD tomorrow ... here goes.
Off to have a cuppa and relax ... Night all xx0 -
Sorry to hear about expensive boiler repairs and the like. fmess I can so relate to your situation with OH. Mine used to be the same and would drive ne crazy and scared about our future. Luckily he finally saw the light. He's still not great with money but the penny dropped finally after we decided to buy a house together and start a family. All the talking before did zilch, suddenly he just changed. Sorry that's probably not much help
Had a 10 pound pub lunch today and spend 73£ in lidldiddle. Incl expensicve stuff like washing powder and loads of meat. Will try and eek that shop out till the end of the month apart from some fruit, bread and milk.

Fmess rant away how annoying when you're working so hard on budgeting. Hugs
Phoenix sorry to hear yr boiler costs.
Had to spend today took ex boyfriend out for lunch as he was my hero plumber the other week when water was flooding into my lounge. Great pub and only came to £30 2 meals and puds drinks- cheaper than calling out British Gas at 10pm.
Also went food shopping I love making my own xmas cake but it does cost more than shop bought ones but taste is so much better. Bought ingredients weighed them out and will make it tomorrow. Fruit drowning in brandy now.
Made an apple cake today, nearly ended up like one of the old lady's. Off vicar if dibley, luckily realised I had bought cumin instead of cinnamon. Phew used nutmeg instead.
Off for a bath then bed, feel lousy awful sore throat. Don't want to be an ill birthday girl tomorrow.
