Spent £5.20 on an anybus ticket (think I have done 35 bus miles, possibly more as been round several estates) and bought diet decaff coke (42p) and something else but can't find the pesky receipt.

Quick trip to town as a warm up. Ds2 told me last night that he had moved out, but some of his things were still at the old house - he has told the person helping him to move that everything needs to go before the next Council Tax payment is due. Well he seems to have taken most of his clothes and toiletries, his big tv, playstation and games and not much else (especially not the two couches and tank tv - hiding under the kitchen table - I told him to organise collection for weeks ago.

So have put out the bin (binned anything that has been used as an ashtray - sorry couldn't face scraping ash off things) for collection on Wednesday, put any bottles in the brown bin, gathered a sack of paperwork (brought back to put in my paper bin) and turned off the fridge freezer and brought the contents back to my house. I knew there was a drawer in the freezer that was full but didn't get any less even when he was short of money - think I may have 10 boil in the bag fish (will read some instructions when in SM, think it ok to microwave them, but can't remember how long).

Also lettuce and tomatoes, cooked meat, milk and marg. he may ask for these back but I am not paying for electicity in a house that is supposed to be empty (and he isn't paying me rent for).

Read on another thread about someone hopping on a bus she had never been on 'just for an adventure', so decided to adopt this attitude when I set out at noon and it has mostly got me through the day (took the horse pain-killers just before I set out. Took sandwiches, water, apple, bananas, celery sticks and picked up coke on the way (as didn't have any spare arms left earlier ('found' 3 toilet rolls as well).

Made very good time, had lunch at Wigan bus station (weather put paid to plans to eat in the park - looked like a drowned rat before 10.30 cos of putting things in the bins). Hobbled round Wigan to look for free toilets, decided the shops held nothing of interest for a well- behaved turtle and headed back to catch my bus to the hospital.

Very interesting journey - back to the big houses and open fields of a few weeks ago then a turn through a housing estate 60's/ former council/ new build then tiny terraces and shops - the original towns and 'countryside' joined together by a patchwork of generational builds. On the way back was wondering about the bus route through the seemingly affluent area but if any of the couples in the 60's houses had bought them as new builds and are still living in them, they will be in their late 70's and 80's now and may no longer drive themselves.

Early to hospital and slightly perturbed that lots of people were called but no-one came back to the waiting room - then counted the board and 14 doctors were holding clinics. Called before my time and

AND IT SHOULD BE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

    What a lovely Christmas Present.
Told them I had no problem with going in, in between Christmas and New Year if they were quiet then. Apparently I am so bad (round 'ball' is nearly worn flat, growth spurs on edges of bone and no cartilage at all left) that this is all they can do for me. So was asked if I wanted to go through to pre-op:-

Cue nearly two hours of filling in forms, signing, height, weight, blood pressure, blood samples, swabs, ecg. Hopefully a good sign (according to waiting room gossip it has to be done within six weeks of the op date so either will be going soon or will have to go back and do it again, but not worried now I know where to go etc). Also at one point (doctor hadn't written up his notes) I was asked to wait 5 minutes and then my leg wouldn't work when I stood up again, so they stuck me in a chair and wheeled my around from room to room, which was very restful. Got out at 6pm and last bus was 6.06pm so fairly smooth going on the way home.

The journey did make me think about how 'small' my world has become. Lots of places I used to walk to, places I have been to for various voluntary training/ fundraising events, taking the children on days out and past the hospital DS2 spent time in when he broke his elbow but a good day, especially as the sun decided to come out.

  • Oh Wow!! Happy New Hip mothernerd!! A lady a few doors up from me had hers done in the early summer, and is still walking around with 1 crutch now, so be warned it is a long process, but lady up the road says she is feeling much better for it.

My great-aunt, in her 90's now, has 2 new hips and still lives alone, sleeps upstairs and walks winding steep stairs each night without much difficulty, much less difficulty than pre-hips anyway. Sincerely hope you get in for the op soon, sons are as helpful as they can be, and you recover swiftly!!

I like the idea of a bus you don't know, but I get terribly travel sick, as does Jellytot, hence my opting to walk everywhere. :)

Congratulations mothernerd on your plans for a new hip :) and well done on your mammoth bus journey.

Another busy day here today, work followed by training then home to walk the dogs and then prepare more lessons before bed. Planning a SFDS as don't need anything. Had a lovely surprise last night when my sister bought me a takeaway and then made me lunch for the next two days :) she is lovely.

    See you this evening

My dad has had 3 hip replacements! Marvellous operations. So pleased for you. I think they get you up and walking very soon. You will need a downstairs bed for a few weeks. Do get mr and mrs builder to help move things for you, please.

That's Fantastic news mothernerd I know it's made all the difference to a lot of my customers quality of life.

woodstove already on here with a free supply of wood it's the only thing I don't have to be stingy on, the building is great as long as you can keep the heat in the walls, it was designed as a summer let originally so insulation is laughable.

A NSD day for me on the cards I have circuit and insanity training straight after work
  • Congrats mothernerd!!! That's absolutely fantastic news!

Managed another NSD yesterday, hoping to today as well, bar car parking and my bank balance has finally cleared everything from Edinburgh, so I'm right on budget and greatly looking forward to payday next week. Bring it on!

Great news Mothernerd. My Mum had this op at the end of August and is feeling a lot better. She would have been further down the road to recovery had she been sensible and not tried to run before she could walk. Had to explain to her, a number of times, that it is a big op and she is not in a race to recover. At least she has allowed us to keep her 2 dogs which I have refused to return until she can cope with them :D

Had to reset the heating schedule this morning as 18 degrees was uncomfortably hot. Changed it to 16 degrees in the morning and evening for a couple of hours and will see how that goes.

Taking another day off work as the pain is still too much to be able to concentrate for any length of time. Hoping to go back tomorrow as I always feel bad taking time off sick. I'm also concerned that I will need some time off after the tooth is extracted as I have very long roots and my face will blow up like a balloon

The sun is trying to come out here so hopefully it will be a nicer day than the constant rain yesterday.

Love the jumping on a bus idea. I used to do that when I worked in Paris for 9 months. Originally came home every weekend then stayed for 2 weeks at a time (one of the perks of being single) so had weekends to explore. Bought a 2 day travel card and just jumped on the first bus that came along and then off if something took my fancy. It was great as I got to see lots of the real parts of Paris as well as the normal attractions. For some reason I feel more comfortable using public transport in a foreign country when I don't know my way around than I do in the UK. Bizarre :rotfl:

Sorry for the epic post. Result of not being at work and having nothing planned.

Mothernerd, congratulations! Hope it happens soon and you recover quickly.

Had 14 degrees downstairs today so the heating came on for the baby. Have it on a timer (19 C) for an hour now in the morning and 3 hours after work.

Today should be an SFD. Need milk and bread but might last till tomorrow and the weather is too nasty anyway to make it to the shops at lunch time.

This being married is great so far. DH now constantly asks if he can help (I guess having had the two kids on his own when he was off and trying to get stuff done must've been an eye opener too ;) ). So now I just have to let him help otherwise he'll stop asking :P

Great news mothernerd - and YAY to the NHS.

The heating is still off here although the thermostat today and yesterday is reading 15 degrees. I am hoping to hold out until November with just occasional use of the gas fire in the living room and the solid fuel stove in the dining room. We have a heated clothes airer in our bedroom which heats the room when I need to use it to dry washing on. The only time I felt warm yesterday was when I called at my parents house for lunch and when I was cycling and at the gym.

I have got my winter coat out now and will be fishing out everyone's hats and gloves - it is very cold and foggy here today and the damp seems to penetrate to your bones.

  • Feeling quite proud of myself. I had a swim this morning before work and have a game of squash booked for this evening.

Finally told work I want to move on and we have agreed that i will work with them until christmas. Quite excitied now I know I am going. Major focus on saving for the enxt few months.

Last night I joined the local community centre (£6 annual fee) and that's where I am playing squash tonight.

    To do this week:
    1. NSDs rest of the week.
    2. Daily exercise.
    3. Finalise car insurance.
    4. Sort out my sisters 40th birthday gift.
    5. Sort out another christmas gift (or two).

    Brilliant news mothernerd.:j:j
