    Good morning :)

Bad news out of the way first, bought some fresh bits yesterday had a £3 voucher but spent extra £2.85 on top of that and got £10 cash. Going to put towards farrier so in theory saving £25 next month. Bad news is that am only £20 away from overdraft limit :(

    Ok so good news...

First of all the big news is that my neighbours brought a guy round yesterday, he needs a room, seemed very keen, wants to move in 1st August. Have got a draft licence agreement have found, got a friend checking it over at the moment, will drop to neighbours later and also find out a bit more info about the guy for insurance purposes as have to notify my house insurance. Hopefully no major increase in premium, watch this space.

So in theory this is good news, will give me £350 a month which will cover my costs and mean my parents wont need to support me any longer. My parents have said the money they give me we can maybe put towards an overpayment on the mortgage so then that could be paid down quicker and end up with the mortgage myself quicker. The prospective lodger also works full time, plus prob weekends so wouldnt be there a lot, he also offered to help do bits of work on the house, yes it needs doing and especially paint so that could help out, hopefully didnt come across as living in a hovel and desperately need a man to help :rotfl:

But am used to living on my own, like my own space, be very strange for someone else to live there, also he is foreign and speaks broken english, enough to get by so that will be strange. I do trust my neighbours and trust that this guy is ok, but still be weird. Talking to YO who rents out her flat she says whoever comes in I wont know and will be strange so think need to suck it up and get on with it.

I think at the moment my financial circumstances dictate that I dont have a choice and need that lodger until I am in a better position, out of debt and with savings would be a good start , one day that will be achieved :)

So if all checks out ok with the insurance bits and he agrees to the licence agreement then he will be round at the weekend to drop of the deposit and then moving in the following weekend with the months rent in advance  Not long at all.

I think this is a case of watch this space and see how we go.

So other good news, some good ebay sales last night and a small survey payment has landed, sent to savings. Total now £309, so £41 under target this month but not bad in the scheme of things. This was made up of min payment for sofa and Bcard and have managed to save £175.30 this month :D That should earn me a few pennies interest at least.

Other good news is that my virgin bill came through and it should have been £38.99 package less £13 odd adjustment from last month, but it was £36 so gave them a call this morning, they had put wrong details into the system so re-adjusted and as bill has already generated this month will be a saving next month plus a wee small discount due to error so will be £38.99 less £20 odd of savings next month so thats a great saving. :)

So new day tomorrow and new target of £350 to be set up.

    Mini Goal - £4208.30 - Month 1 - £350 target - £309.96

    Good afternoon :)

So speaking to a learned colleague at work has put further doubts in my mind regarding the potential lodger. I need to go round and see my neighbours, will try and do tonight but got hoss trainer so if not tomorrow to try and find out a bit more about this guy, what he does, employment details, any references etc. I do need to do the renting a room out as need the money but argh its so hard to know if I am doing the right thing :(

    Good morning :)

2bak860 thanks for dropping by, re ebay its amazing the amount of carp have collected over the years, just random bits, always try selling things at least once before donate to charity. Once have finished my pile will start being ruthless with everyday bits, at the end of the day I cant afford to hang into things I dont need, the cash is more important.

So mini goal updated below as we are now in a new month, lets see if I can outdo my figures from last month, have showed running total as well so can see the figures going down :)

Have just spent £25 on B12 pills, these along with my thryroxine keeps me on a steady keel so well worth the spend. Is 200 tablets so will keep me going for ages. Have also gone through quidco and should get 10% cashback. Have already got 98p confirmed on cashback so that can go towards targets :) As its the day before payday have paid on CC, but can pay of tomorrow, the £25 is half my misc spending for next month but its a health issue I cant afford to not spend on.

Payslip arrived last night ready for payday tomorrow, looks like have a £57 nett increase from last month due to payrise so that will really help :D

    Mini Goal - [STRIKE]£4208.30[/STRIKE] £3898.34 - Month 2 - £350 target - £0

Congratulations on the pay rise! Also, you can't put a price on your health so don't feel you need to justify that :)

Instead of overpaying the mortgage, would it be better to pay off the debts first, then hit the mortgage? Why are you having doubts about the lodger?

Lucielle thanks for dropping by. Regarding the money, all extra I am making is going towards the debt, the money my parents were helping out with my mum wants to overpay the mortgage so hitting both items. If we overpay the mortgage by £100 then could get the mortgage to a figure that I can afford in just over 2 years, rather than the possibly 4/5 I am looking at currently. If we pay £200 a month that is 2 years, again instead of 4/5. Obviously I want this mortgage figure low as soon as possible as, as soon as I can take on the mortgage myself I can cut all financial ties with ex and knowing his current financial situation I need to do.

For me the target is to clear the debt which is what I am working on, with the lodger my parents can choose to do what they want with the money, but the overpayment idea is definitely being seriously considered. I know I cant get a mortgage with debt, could but it would lower my figure so am keeping going as much as I can. After the debt is paid any more money saved/extras I can look at overpaying myself after but that is for the future at the moment so just need to keep going as I am for now.

Regarding the lodger the doubts I have is because I dont know this guy, he has been recommended by my neighbour, he speaks very broken english, letting a complete stranger in my home really. I am single female living alone so need to look after myself and make sure am ok. Its a difficult situation. I did speak to my neighbour last night, got some information on the tenant and seems ok, he is coming round this weekend to pay deposit and then move in the following weekend. I just need to see how this is all going to pan out, not get stressed and hope for the best really. Keeping everything crossed :)

Payday today :D Money sent to bills a/c, new savings a/c opened ready for the rental deposit, obviously wont touch this money but will be able to earn a few pence interest on this at least.

    Good afternoon :)

Well it sort of is, its been a manic monday and dont know whether I am coming or going, bah is it friday yet!

So a busy weekend, family round on saturday and helped me clear out my spare room, rest of ex's boxes/bits in the loft, old wardrobe dismantled. My tip run pile is huuge now, most of stuff can fit in car but rest will be a struggle as too heavy/long, ideally need a skip but obviously pennies not allowing for so will improvise best I can. Sunday mum came round and we stripped the horrible 50's wallpaper from the built in cupboards, the wallpaper on the walls was already painted and is ok so spent the day giving the room a lick of paint, magnolia so very boring but its what I had available at home so no extra pennies spent. Got to spend the next few days putting the furniture back, putting up curtains, giving it a good clean but 90% complete and ready to let now.

My new tenant was meant to come round yesterday to drop of the deposit but didnt come so now there are nerves/issues floating around about whether he is serious or not, will give it a day or so and see, if not will advertise on the private market.

So stupidly busy weekend but no pennies spent :) Unfortunately as was so busy didnt get a chance to take advantage of the 100 free listings on ebay so no extra money to be made.

A few sales happened on ebay over the weekend, 1 out of 3 has paid so far so my month 2 target is off the marks. Mini goal updated below.

So spoke to ex again, he wants a lump sum, wants to clear of some of his credit card debt, he owes £16k, all interest bearing  So no official figures yet, had to speak to him today about making sure he sent over the figure for the life insurance renewal due in a few days. Will look into some figures properly and see what I can come up with. Watch this space as they say.
