I hope this is the right place to post, I'd like to start quilting but am struggling to find a local group or anyone running classes local to me as I can only realistically do weekends due to work is anyone aware of anything like this in the Wiltshire area? Thanks in advance
2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
2014 £2 savers club #3 - I've no idea, but the pig is beginning to get mighty heavy

Blade runner good to hear that someone wants to start Quilting. There is a Quilters Guild of Great Britain who may be able to point you towards a group. Also you could ask in Quilt Shops, they will know the local groups and may also run classes. The best thing to do is to do a beginners course and then go from there. I think there is a quilt shop in Chippenham and I know of one in Frome and one called Mid Somer quilters which is near Bath if you are near there. Good luck with your search.
    Happy Quilting all :)

  • Not doing any sewing right now. Packing up the sewing room ready for the move at the end of the month.got the keys to our new home last Thursday, the decor is fine but the place is filthy. We are going over alternate days, tomorrow I am tackling the kitchen. The cupboard doors are streaked with grease, so heaven knows what the top of the cupboards is like, sure I will find out tomorrow.

Plants dug up from here, I will be doing some strimming later in the week so OH can get the veg in.

We actually move 29th of June.

I know how you feel bladerunner (is that a reference to the film??) I am having the same problem. There is hopefully a new group starting very close to me but its been months since I started asking around.

I second Miffy's suggestion about asking around and looking for a course. Good luck in your search. :j

Long time no posting! Are we all busy, I know Csarina's got a lot on her plate from the daily.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed but it's my own fault, I usually make a quilt from start to finish before I do another project but this time I have been so enthusiastic about some patterns I've been overlapping.

I am quilting the single bed size quilt and regretting my decision to be more fancy with my free motion quilting, it's taking forever. I have also started and finished piecing a storm at sea top and a half square triangles top with alternating warm and cool fabrics, both lap size.
I've also started piecing another which entails cutting out 142 orange peel segments in interfacing, sewing them to fabric and then turning them inside out so that I can fuse them to a top I am making - I am an idiot, it will take even longer than forever.

Wow snoozer sounds as if you have a lot on the go. Haven't done much sewing lately but really need to get on and do some. Deleted_User glad to hear you are getting your new bungalow sorted. Patches and blade runner hope you can find a group soon.

I've been buying fabric again lately, I wanted to make a quilt out of plain fabrics which I don't have a lot of so I binged a bit. I also went through my boxes and decided I needed more reds, yellows and greens so I've been picking up a few fat quarters here and there.

I went into a charity shop yesterday and they had a big piece of Laura Ashley 100% cotton fabric from the 70's that will be perfect for a backing, plus a slightly smaller piece in a different print which will be good as a blender. They only asked for £1.50 for the two so it was a real bargain.

Csarina, I hope you are soon back on your feet and at you machine again.

Prompted by my last post I thought I'd ask if your stash is dominated by any one colour. For me it's blues, I've got lots, including Japanese indigos and ranging from the darkest navy to palest blue taking in teals and turquoises. I haven't got a lot of green or pink.

I'm a bit like you snoozer, I do like blue but am trying to expand a bit.

I am going to a course (unconnected to quilting) on Saturday in Halifax and a little haberdashery and sewing shop round the corner from the venue is having a fabric sale.

I can hear my card crying already!!!! :)
  • Sorry I have not been around, was rushed to hospital 11 days ago, have had to have a pacemaker fitted, a bit of a shock.

The girls in the group decided to meet today regardless, so they are soldiering on.

We move on Monday, OH has had to do most of the work as I have been laid up. Having to take things slowly. 6 weeks before I can really get going again or drive the car. The children have come up trumps as far as helping towards the move. DD1 was with us today putting curtains up for me. DD2 will be here tomorrow and again on Sunday when they start to pack. DS2 was over taking stuff down and will be back Tuesday to put stuff up again. I am not going to rush unpacking, we will do a couple of boxes a day until it's all cleared away and I get my sewing room up and running.
