Snoozer that Japanese wall hanging sounds good. I want to make one of those as I went to a Sashiko workshop and now have a few squares I need to do something with. I machine in our dining room which is open to our lounge. DH is usually watching TV so I tend to listen to that. Used to watch TV when I had a sewing room but really listened to it than watching it. Hand sewing or knitting is definitely the thing to do while watching TV.

I couldn't watch tv and use the sewing machine. I need to keep a close eye on what I'm doing. Although I do listen to music or occasionally audio books. There is something quite relaxing about it.
Snoozer, I'm looking forward to seeing the Japanese wall hanging. It sounds intriguing - I can't visualise anything Japanese!
I usually save knitting, crocheting and hand sewing for doing downstairs while we watch TV ... If its sport or some of his more boring programs I can ignore it and concentrate on what I'm doing without feeling antisocial!0 -
AArrggghhhh I had an order for two Christmas tree hangings for someone, so decided this afternoon to get on with them out of the way. The gold thread I use to applique the bits on is driving me nuts, despite what I do it keeps breaking, it hates the needle threader and I cannot see properly to thread the needle without using it, it took me 2 hours to do a job which usually take 20 mins max. I have given up in disgust for today. I do not know whether the chuck the machine out or the thread. I do know one thing, I will not be doing the second one with gold thread!!
I am using a metalica needle so its not the needle. I also have the reel on the upright spool pin. I had a previous machine that hated metallic thread, never had the poblem with the 12000, I do miss that machine..........
I still have two hangings to sew the binding down on as well.....0 -
Deleted_User someone gave me some metallic thread to try and my machine didn't like it all. It's so frustrating when things don't work. Hope you manage to get them finished. Going to do some of my blocks in a minute, just reading a patchwork magazine

Csarina, as I was reading though your post it reminded me of something I read by an artist who machine embroiders. I'm afraid my memory isn't good enough to remember who it was so apologies to them if they ever see this.
With difficult thread like metallic he would put it onto the bobbin and sew with the work upside down. The tension from the bottom was meant to be more forgiving???? I can't quite see how that could be done if you're doing applique but may be useful later if only to experiment????
Back at work this morning ... better do what I'm being paid for!
Have a good day everyone.0 -
That might work but not on applique you need to see the edge of the fabric.
I have to finish the one I started, it will look very odd if I switch to ordinary thread half way through.
I just do not understand it, same make of machine, thread was the best metallic I have used for a long while, it just does not seem to lile the machine.......or rather the machine does not like it for some reason. Hey ho onwards and upwards.
I will do the other one useing matching cotton to the fabric, not the same sparkly effect but it will have to do.0 -
Hope you managed to get there in the endDeleted_User Spent some time this afternoon stitching more blocks together, nearly finished putting them into rows. Off to Malvern tomorrow for the Autumn Quilt Show, will try not to spend too much money but everything is so tempting. I do need backing for the quilt I'm working on so that will be my main priority.

Lovely quilt rosyq, I like the colours.
I've still not entirely regained my mojo, but I finished hand sewing the binding on the celtic quilt, it just needs photographing and then I'll post it, along with the last baby quilt I did (I think that photo is still in the camera).
I'm going to have much less time to sew over the next few weeks - sis-in-law is coming down next week to do the touristy thing and the week after that I start work again. It's only temporary p/t but the woman who replaced me practically begged me to go back and help. Oh well, if I hate it I'll just stop.0 -

The sun is just breaking through here ... Lovely.
Would you believe after pushing to get this one done they are now happy to wait until after the baby is born so that I can 'finish' it with the label ... I sense the interference of my other half here. There was no need to rush after all!
Still done now.
Patches, this is lovely so neat and tidy looking. Was it sewn on a machine or by hand?
I've just finished a quilt but mine are hand sewn and look puffy (luckily I quite like the look of puffy), not professional looking.
I'll post a pic when I take one.
