Middle names?

I agree with the last poste - middle banes (initial) can help with identity.
I heard of a mother who called all her four daughters with first names beginning with 'S' and no initial - big problems when the post starts arriving addressed to Miss S _____ !!
On the other hand, I'm known by my middle name I think only the Dentist calls me by my first name.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
My kids have my grandparents names as middle names, my son is Reece Bobby & my daughter is Paige Marie. Bobby is my grandad and Marie is my husbands nan's middle name as i didn't fancy Ivy0

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone
Jack was the name of OH's grandfather, and Niamh is because of his Irish roots. I wanted to pick middles names to show my Pakistani roots but he's dead against it (don't ask) so my original idea was to have my grandfather's name as a middle name but he won't let me do it!!
As for girls, the name Ann has been going around as a middle name for three generations (my grandma, my auntie and my two cousins) but I'm not very keen on the name - plus it wasn't seen to be a nice gesture, it was more of a points scoring reason.
OH had the idea of using my middle name, Charlotte, to go with Niamh which I thought was pretty cool. I'm just wanting more options because I'm bound to change my mind!
Might just have Phoebe and Phoebo.
But I thought he was letting you choose the middle names! Surely if he gets to choose the first names (which is the more impotant choice - so actually should be a joint descision), you should get to choose the middle name. I think whatever you choose it should be something that flows well.
Edit: sorry OP saw you have already addressed this point above.0 -
You say your O.H is Catholic and considering you are T.T.C.This idea will be a fair few years away but if confirmed they will need another middle (confirmation) name ,let your O.H have his say in this name and you choose their "first" middle name now.
I've never heard of this before, mine are all brought up Catholic and its never been mentioned that they need a middle name as a confirmation name.
if they decide to get confirmed they choose their confirmation name themselves, normally after a saint, I chose Lucy (its not my first or middle name) and dh chose Michael (not his first or middle name either)0 -

It's the same with us. Except, it's two girls and a male, which isn't quite as bad. Just becomes a problem when it's Ms S.....
I think it should be a joint decision. My brother's name wasn't and my mum had phoned her MIL. To which MIL replies that my brother's first name, is our uncle's middle name.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I didn't decide to get confirmed, it was part of my school lessons like arithmetic or religious instruction and everyone did it, apart from the girl with Polish parents as they were Polish Orthodox and stood up to the school and withdrew her from confirmation class.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
OH is not Catholic, nor was he raised to be one by his parents. We have already said that there will be no christening/confirmation etc as I do not see the point if we are not going to be practising any faith.
Yeah first names were a joint choice as I liked the idea of Irish names, but wasn't keen on Jack as a name (I know a guy with that name, don't like him much :rotfl:) so I compromised.
It does annoy me that he automatically vetoes any Pakistani name I bring up but what can I do? I'm trying my hardest to persuade him but it's so hard. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

It seems to be all completely different now, or it may be where we are, when our ds had his first holy communion this year he was only one of 7 in his class (theres about 24 in his year). There doesnt seem to be any pressure at all, one letter came out about it and told parents who to speak to if they were interested, and that was it
In the confirmation class at church this year, there were only about 5 teenagers in total, and well under 200 in total for the diocease
although I've realised this is completely off topic now!
Just remember that as much as you like the first names you've chosen now, its always worth having a couple of choices, when it came to dd2 the names we had chosen and had been adament about, didnt seem right when she was born, so we had to have a huge rethink about what she was going to be called0 -
