Middle names?

Look, I've tried my best.
His mum asked me why we weren't going to get married in a Catholic church because of his roots (he never goes to church!) and I said that in that case we were going to get married in a Mosque because of mine :rotfl: and that soon shut her up!
I don't mind the Irish first names at all. I've always liked the name Niamh. I think there are some beautiful Pakistani names that would be perfect as middle names and go beautifully with the first names but it's finding ones that OH is okay with - he wants more traditional names but is okay with some of the girl names. It's when I get to boys names he starts shaking his head!
I think he thinks that they're going to be more Irish because he's 1/2 Irish and I'm 1/4 Pakistani, which genetically I think both heritages are equally important. I don't want my kids to not know about their background once my grandfather isn't around.
I don't like the sound of this.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Mine all have two middle names each, and despite as suggested above, they DO get used!
No.1 son has chosen name, my Nan's surname (as it's also a male first name), paternal grandmother's surname, surname
No.2 son has chosen name, my Dad's name, paternal grandmothers surname, surname
Daughter has chosen name, my/OH's Aunts name, my Nan's name, surname.
They all really like their names, none were chosen because they were in fashion, they like having two middle names and like the reasons for choosing them.
I have one middle name, which I absolutely hate, it bears no relation to any relative and was only chosen because it was very popular at the time, unlike my first name which was a family name and quite unusual. Thank goodness they didn't do it the other way around!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
OH doesn't have a middle name and it means his name somehow lacks rhythm.
DS now uses his middle name, as living his the USA, his Welsh first name was causing pronunciation problems.
Lulu, I'm sure you will find names you both like.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -

!
So do mine. The middle ones were chosen for how they sounded together more than anything else though.0 -
You say your O.H is Catholic and considering you are T.T.C.This idea will be a fair few years away but if confirmed they will need another middle (confirmation) name ,let your O.H have his say in this name and you choose their "first" middle name now.
After reading the O.P no where has she said her O.H is Catholic I apologise on assuming this.I can only blame my lack of caffeine this morning.SorryLife is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0 -
We gave our DD my maiden name (which is a girls's first name anyway) as a middle name. She loves it and says it makes her feel more 'connected' to my side of the family to have both maternal and paternal family names included her name.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Twice I've had identification mistakes due to officials thinking I was someone else of the same name, once by a midwife, my first name shot into the top 3 names 10 years after I was born, but my surname whilst not unusual is not that common. Ok you can get round that by giving date of birth or address, something that probably should have been asked but these aren't something you normally announce, whereas you can reply with first middle and surnames when asked your name. Obviously it wouldn't have worked if we'd shared the same middle name too.
Whilst son's middle name was no issue, it's the same as his dads. I struggled with DD's. We have a short one syllable surname so lots of girls names that contain the same letter don't sound correct, and her chosen first name ends ie and so many girl names end either this way or with a y and they couldn't be put with it either. I even asked another woman who already had a daughter called the same name I'd chosen what her middle name was, as I was going to steal.:rotfl:0 -
Ok, thread moved on whilst I was typing. It might be a bit of a tall order to find an Pakistani name that is also commonly found amongst the Irish or vice versa but why not have a flick through.

My middle name is Lesley it's a name used on both sides of our family. On my dad's side it was my dad and my grandad's middle name on my mum's side it was my grandad's first name and aunt's middle
I have never been overly keen on it but I think if I have children then it's a tradition that I would like to continue.
My brother has 1 name on his birth cert but has 2 middle names on everything else. His "official" only middle name was after my mums cousin Mark who died very young. His second name Martyn was added at his Christening. This was my dad's first name he was killed in an accident when my brother was 9 months old.
As others have said have a look at names in your family might be something in there that takes your fancyFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0
