  • Oh and the Lexus dealer gave me a VERY generous offer to part exchange my yaris, nearly the same price if I were to sell it privately! Full complements to Lexus dealer Colindale London. Very customer focused

As a BMW enthusiast for many years I think that you have your priorities all wrong.

I enjoy driving my BMW so much that I want to drive it as much as possible.

You only allow yourself that enjoyment for 5000 miles a year.

At an average of 60mph that's only 83 hours driving time.

For an 8 hour day at the wheel that's a total of only 10 days.

Earlier this month I did a 3000 mile 4 day journey to the edge of the EU - and next week I'll be driving home again. That's what BMW are designed for - being driven.

I couldn't own such a wonderful car as an e92 M3 and only drive it for 80-odd hours a year.

Especially if for the rest of my travels I was in a little metal box (that it ought to be illegal to overtake in) leaving the best motor engineering in the world sitting idle at home.

An M3 can and should be used and enjoyed every day if possible - or it's not worth having one.

If the cost of fuel and servicing is such that running an M3 for all your journeys is too daunting, then you simply get a 'lesser' model BMW.

However on the other hand if you drink Tesco 'plonk' with your meals during the week then I suppose you might better appreciate a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild 1982 occasionally at the weekend or special occasions.

But I any many other serious wine drinkers would settle for a regular tipple of 2010 Château Teyssier, St. Emilion.

A lesser Bordeaux perhaps - but a Bordeaux all the same.

I hope you enjoy driving your Lexus/Toyota but think of all those who drive a BMW every day.

    Cheers.

Good to see a fellow BMW comrade on MoneySavingExpert.com. Of course I wish to drive my M3 monster as much as I can for enjoyment, however I find it VERY frustrating to drive the M3 in stop/start heavy traffic, especially where roads are full of potholes and the car is just jerky. In such conditions I cannot truly explore the car, the clutch is heavy and the accelerator is very sensitive. I once recall an incident whilst having a coffee in the early morning traffic and I sneezed and accidentally pressed the accelerator and the car roared forward nearly ramming into the car ahead. Hence why I have my Yaris or soon to be a Lexus IS250, which would be very comfortable in such conditions.

I use my M3 on longer journeys on open roads (when there is no traffic) where I can enjoy the car, mostly in weekends. Half of the time I just go out for the sake of it to enjoy the driving experience, with no destination in mind. I absolutely love that thrill of revving it to 8000 rpm, bullying my way past cars. I feel like a god, it's a huge thrill, roaring past cars, overtaking them, taking sharp turns fast and letting that V8 scream. Rarely, when I'm in my Yaris, I'd see a fast 330i/335i/M3/M5 coming up behind me at an astonishing rate, with its angry, aggressive infamous BMW grilles (occasionally the xeons eyes are on) flying past with that typical BMW aural note. I have seen this throughout my life with the E36/E46 M3's and I knew that I needed to be a part of this.

After that last post, how about you keep the Yaris and add a couple of go-faster stripes?

Having had a firm sporty MG (so an inferior badge, I loved it anyway) as a daily driver for about 4 years, I admittedly just don't understand why you'd keep the M3 at home. Yes it can be a bit of a chore in stop/start traffic and on rough roads but it's great when you get an opportunity to use it, and the big engine/gearing means you don't need to change gear that often either, since you can stay in 5th down to about 20mph if you're not in a hurry.

The only experience I've got of the 2 car thing is folk that have an expensive sporty car and usually a pretty dull cheap hatchback that they do all their mileage in, so they can take the sports car out once a month to stop the brakes seizing and talk about their Supra in the pub.

If you're going for smart car and fun car, why get an M3 and not something like a Morgan, Lotus or Caterham?

And that's why people don't let BMW's out at junctions.

And he's back in the room.

For a little while there, a degree of the bell-ended-ness had gone from your posts, but there they are, back again.

And what sort of idiot nearly rear-ends the car in front because they're drinking coffee in the traffic? Not in full control of the vehicle? Pillock.

This is absolutely terrible - this is most definitely NOT why I drive a BMW

Considering he barely uses the M3 he sure does have a lot of near miss stories from it.

Nice dose of karma coming your way, I would think. You might feel like a god, but you most certainly sound and look like a prat.

Please do not distort what I said. I did not mean I'm angry and aggressive while driving my M3, but I mean the front end look of the BMW's, with the shape of its grille and headlights LOOK aggressive and angry, coming up behind you...
