• One of the directors has a 535d touring. Great bit of kit, drives beautifully, very quiet, very quick indeed (in real world use it's just as quick as anything else Bavaria's got out there), extremely comfortable, nice ride, good level of kit, and genuinely does over 40mpg without too much effort.

Wow, no downsides? Really fancy one in carbon black (same as the M5 was) :)

Stu@msd has/had an E39 M5, and after mapping a mates 330d said 9 times out of 10 (real world) it would keep up.
Brothers gave me a close run, which was a little depressing. Didn't think I'd need to hit 6k+ to beat a diesel.
So should imagine a 535d is a bit of a monster nipping round 1 or 2 cars?
• Good old Qrew, wonder what he's up to now.

That's with no gas, and stock F28 :)

Obviously Rod Tarry and his 800 odd bhp cossie (on gas) is another matter :)

None that I'm aware of, apart from the ridiculous cost of repairs if something gets broken (think 2K+ to repair the Active Cruise Control after being hit by debris off the back of a truck on a motorway). It is very grunty indeed.

That is the worry, and make me want to get a single turbo and map it.
I know a good indy, will have to see what his views are on them :)
All I've had to do on this Passat in 18 months is weld the exhaust together where it snapped in half.
I guess all cars are more and more less diy friendly though these days.
M5 was diy friendly, thermostat was a bit of a twat though - and £100!

Alan Partridge had a Lexus...

So did I for 6 weeks - only good things were the comfort/excellent stereo and the comedy value of parking outside the local Travelodge
• Did it not compare to an M3?
I used to have an M3...

Workmate had a Lexus, never went wrong. Where's the fun in that?!
