To be fair I've had an M3 and M5, and the cars inspire such confidence you almost can't help but drive fast. In the car you're at about 10%, but as you're going so much faster than average runabouts you probably look like a hooligan from the outside.

As for running them everyday, in a way it seems a waste. My 30 mile round trip for work was spent sat in slow traffic, or watching the mpg.
Who wants commuting to take more of a chunk of your pay than it has to, especially if you're sat at 40mph, any car can do that.
Driving a Polo for work, then jumping in the M5 on a Friday night was great, makes you appreciate it more.

    +1!

The M series are very special...

And about using the Polo for commute in stop/start traffic and the M car in the weekends, to me this makes total sense.

My last car, an E92 N53 330i, which was also quick, is actually faster at lower speeds in city driving (less than 35 mph) and feels more torquey than my M3. Although it was the M Sport variant, it rode a little more smoother than my M3, so I didn't have to worry as much for potholes (although relative to a normal car the ride was still hard).

The M3 on the other hand, due to its gearing and ability to rev to 8000 plus rpm, doesn't feel as fast in stop/start traffic and you always have to dodge and be weary of potholes etc, as the ride was so hard. Its just a waste to be honest to use such a magnificent car in these sort of conditions.

And to reiterate what JustinR said, in a car like the M3 (or even the N53 330i), even though I may be drive in a relaxed state,it doesn't actually feel fast, for i.e. at a round about , to other drivers I'll look like I'm going fast.

Faster at lower speeds? Eh? 20mph is 20mph, 30mph is 30mph, 12.876mph is 12.876mph no matter what car I'm in.

Any well set up car will corner faster than most, but that's not dangerous or irresponsible in itself. I loved not having to slow down to go round most roundabouts, when it was empty. The risks come in with the speed differential and reaction times. Just because you've yet to have an accident driving faster than everyone else doesn't mean you won't.

No-one has issue with you giving it a blast when it's quiet, the issue was with you "bullying" other road users. That makes you a prat whatever you are driving.
  • You've never driven an M3 have you ;)

    :D(joke)

I didn't realise they could actually distort the laws of Physics.

And I have, actually. Owned an M3 and an M5, but I've grown up now.
  • It is a MUCH MORE of an advanced engine that any bog standard one you see on the road. The M3 uses racing spec parts, hence why it is able to produce 100 plus HP per litre and red line to 8300 rpm.

I'm fully aware Darkmatter101 is either a pre - pubescent schoolboy and/or a Troll but FYI

100bhp/litre is what commuter motorbikes put out (nothing special)
8300prm is less that halfway to the redline of a Yamaha R6
oh, and i've put over 100,000 miles on a Honda Fireblade using only Supermarket fuel

Yep, we've tried telling him his M3 isn't an F1 car, but he's not listening. Even by comparison with the engineering excellence of my R1200GS, it's still pretty basic.

I suppose if he's happy in his little world that's all that matters..... maybe when he finally gets to kiss a girl his priorities will change!

I don't think its particularly difficult to understand what I was trying to say, which was clearly ACCELERATION from to 30ish mph, which I found quicker in the 330i in traffic and bad roads, probably because of the extra available torque and more comfortable ride.

Right. That's not what you said. In my defence, many of your posts quite actually are quite difficult to understand and contradictory, although that may just be as a result of the points of view you hold.

How can you compare motorcycle engines to car engines? The 2014 Formula 1 engines *only* rev to a maximum of 15k rpm. Does that mean the Yahama R6 which can rev to around the same limit if not more, is technically superior to F1 engines? BIG FAT NO!

In fact for any road car (Ferrari Italia 458 etc) revving to 8k-9k and producing 100hp plus per litre of displacement is a marvelous feat of accomplishment for THAT type of engine. But some how you often get idiots who make far fetched comments on how commuter BIKES can put out 100plus/litre and say its nothing special.
