How do you lot do it? I have 2 days off but sitting here watching TV instead of tidying. I just have no energy to do it. I work rotating shifts and I'm tired all the time. I wish I had the motivation you all have. I have tried but I do something then sit down and just watch the box :-/

When I see your lists I think wow. I don't clean the windows that often, I don't wash the skirting that often and you all do that every week?

I've been up today since 8pm and only filled the dish washer up and put a washing machine load on and the rest of the time watching TV :o

No, I only clean windows when they need doing! - which usually means when someone is coming who will want to look out into the garden :D Generally I don't even follow the main list, though I do get inspiration from it. Nobody will stop you doing things your way.

Perhaps you could try doing a quick general tidy round (throw stuff into boxes to sort later, one at a time) and then concentrate on one room, as suggested. In principle, tackle the 15 minute jobs first, but if you think that cleaning the bathroom is more urgent than the LR, go for it. When you've done it thoroughly once, it won't take so long next time.

Come and join me and Frizzle for 15 minutes and see what you can achieve :j:j

    I am procrastinating again... :o

Kimberley the lists are not completed by everybody every week and they do not include window cleaning or skirting wiping every week. the idea is that over time you will get in a routine and these things will be done radually. Just do 15 minutes at a time, most people can manage 15 minutes, set a timer and see how you go. I have the rest of the shopping to put away then I'm having a little sit in the sunshine.

Ditto for not cleaning windows 'that often' and I wouldn't know what washing the skirting boards would be like. They get a wipe over very, very occasionally - usually just before they get painted which is once every 10 - 15 years. (They get dusted when I remember to do it.)

What I do, every single day, is tidy up and it makes a world of difference. About 18 months ago I made myself ask every time I left a room (for one day only) 'What doesn't belong in here?' and then took those things out and put them where they belonged. At the end of the day the house was a lot tidier and I haven't been able to get out of the habit ever since which surprised me.

Please don't be intimidated by what a few people manage each day - you're comparing yourself at your most exhausted to the most productive person on the thread and that'll make you feel a failure. You're here, you're thinking about how you'd like your place to look and that is great preparation for actually doing something about it.

I was chatting to Mrs Dog as I walked her this morning (as you do) and told her that I love her company and I love walking her, but the vet's bills are a bit steep. Got home, realised she was in pain, got a couple of her prescribed pain killers out, put them on the side while I cooked a bit of chicken for her as they shouldn't get given on an empty stomach and heard 'Crack, crunch crunch crunch' behind me. Devil Cat has had an emetic jab, thrown up half the pill, is now sedated and on a drip at the vets, where he will remain for 48 hours before having a blood test and being discharged - if all goes well. The bill estimate is  . *sigh*
    Better is good enough.

Thanks everyone. Well just did toilet and took 20 minutes as it was in bad need of a clean and the floor. So sat here on my IPad for a few minutes and will do the bathroom in a while. I guess that 20 minutes wasn't so bad after all and it's made me realise how much better you feel when it's clean and tidy.
Would a chore list on the wall help for the days I'm working? Maybe when I'm on lates I can quickly run a cloth around the toilet and bathroom?

No woman, ever, needs that. I'm glad I made you chuckle, which is what every woman needs when things are tough. And *finding vibes* for you.

The lovely vet thinks the instantaneous zooming up there, the sicked up half tablet and the low dosage of the tablet may mean he doesn't have lasting kidney or liver damage, especially if he doesn't keep pulling the IV out - which he will if he isn't sedated again. OH is beside himself - he was nearly in tears when he realised we'd have to leave Devil Cat up there for 48 hours.

Now, I really must make these stitchy things.

I don't do it all every week! I tend to stick to the lists and add my own bits. There are certain things that I will always do eg Hoover but on that day I will look at the windows or the skirting boards and see if they need doing, if they don't I just delete them off my list. Today I am on bathrooms and it said about doing the tiles etc, took one look at the bathrooms and decided the tiles were fine so didn't do them! Make the lists fit you, they are just suggestions! I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and struggle to get anything extra done apart from sorting the kds out, dinner, washing, clearing up etc which us why I play catch up on a Thursday. It works for me! Also try setting yourself a time limit so you break it up into manageable chunks!

I clean things a lot more often now I am on here. I was embarrassed how often I left certain things but this thread helps keep me on track!
