I'm in the same position as you. Today I managed to check our local shop to find it in midst EE refurb. I was told by the shopfitters that all phones in the shop were sent back to head office with a view to them then being returned to customers . Head office confirmed that this is the plan for these phones so I'll post again if and when the phone arrives back ...

Thank you. Unfortunately my local shop is one that has not been taken over but hopefully whoever is dealing with the empty shops will send the phone back. I will keep the forum updated.

At a starting price of pretty much £500 and with nearly 140 people buying a phone from p4u in advance that’s £70 000 they could have potentially defrauded people out of. And that’s at £500. The top priced phone is nearly £800, meaning that total could actually be more than £100 000 knowing full well they had no intention of providing the goods.

You are talking about the sim free cost though. I would imagine a high percentage of people who purchased through P4U did so as part of a contract so they wouldn't have paid anywhere near £500 for the phone, let alone £800. The top end model with CPW is only £200 up front. So even if everyone ordered it at £200 up front, it's less than £30,000 and obviously not everyone would have gone for the 128GB Plus version.

It would have cost P4U more to keep the business running for the 2 extra days you say they did, than the tiny (in comparison to their reported £250m debts) amount they would have received from iPhone sales.

    Hi Charleem,

Apologies for not replying sooner but I've not been on for a few days.

Funnily enough, I'm with Halifax too. I called P4U and cancelled my order on the Monday too and then went into my bank as a back up. Halifax didn't do a thing. They said the orders were being honoured or refunded and there was nothing they could do. My order never actually dropped off my pending authorisations. It just went through as normal and I've not seen a penny of it come back yet. I've followed the charge back advice but heard nothing back from Halifax yet so I'll be chasing them up tomorrow.

Did you also buy it outright and did you also get the email confirming that it'd been cancelled? I'll update here if the money is taken from my account, but the advisor on the phone said that after 7 days the authorisation would drop off and if they couldn't take it now because it'd be classed as fraud, so I'd be covered under that as well. I'm still annoyed with myself for spending so much money on a debit card! I got through to P4U the moment the lines went active about 0930 on the Monday then received the email immediately. I hope the chargeback works for you, you'd think it would.
  • Before Phones4U went into administration, I sent my daughters Samsung back for repair as it is under warranty and not holding a charge. The phone had a cracked screen which had not affected it use until the moment it stopped charging - at least six months.

I received a call from Phones4U who said they would not carry out the warranty repair to the phone unless they repaired the screen. I reluctantly parted with £85.99 for the screen repair. The Worldpay transaction went to Anovo.

Phones4U also insisted that we buy a new charger - £11.00 which we did.

Two weeks passed and with pressure applied to Anovo, we did eventually get the phone back with the screen repaired. However it still does not hold a charge so is utterly useless.

Neither Phones4U or Anovo now want to know about the problem and blame each other.

Who is responsible in law - Samsung, Phones4U or Anovo because that is who I paid?

Phone4u as the retailer you bought the phone from (assuming it's within the first 12 months). But that gets you no where as you can't take action against any company in administration.

Your next course would be Samsung under their 2 year limited warranty. The problem there might be that they won't touch it as someone else has tried to repair it!

I'd call Samsung and see what they advice...

Hopefully shouldn't be an issue. Anovo are a Samsung authorised repairer and do warranty repairs for them.

So what do Anovo say about the repair?

You did contact them before posting to the internet didn't you?

They have a page in their website detailing P4U repairs.

They have a contact page at:

Made my weekly call and was told that PWC started going to the shops on Wednesday, the London stores are first then they will work round to the other stores. I explained that my local store is on the list of ones that have not been taken over. I was told that I would be phoned before Wednesday regarding dispatch of my phone to me. I have notified Apple as the one year warranty expires in November. I will try to be optomistic but I have been told the same for the last two weeks when I have phoned.

Tibs, if it's any help you could always purchase Applecare and extend the warranty by another 12 months, you can purchase applecare from ebay for around £30, you can log in online at your support profile and extend the warranty that way.

I've always purchased my applecare from ebay and I've never had a problem and have made several claims over the years. Not only that but it also makes the re-sale value of the phone worth more as well due it having a warranty.
