i went to tinder first because i cba with profiles ...ugh

Online dating's like anything in life- you get what you put in.

You can't really moan about it not working when you can't be bothered to write a profile :) I'm not saying that you won't ever have any luck on POF or OKCupid without one, but you're lowering your chances quite a bit.

You don't have to write loads, I'd just focus on a few aspects of your life that are important to you, and go from there. Also, if you can, remember to show rather than tell- eg, don't say 'I'm a funny person', try to get some jokes into it.

  • It's that last bit I'd be focusing on if you aren't getting many replies. I wouldn't really count filling in the drop downs and tick boxes as profile content- I'd have at least a little bit in the main profile section.

If what you've got now isn't working, just try changing it a little. You definitely don't need huge essays, but adding a bit in there might help. Otherwise, people don't really know who you are. Granted, to some/most, the photo is the most important thing, but I'd say it's worth doing.

  • No problem- sadly you've still got to write the profile, which I'll admit is the hard bit. If it helps, I'm happy to look at what you've written if you want to PM me.

The way I see it if you don't have anything personally written in your profile then you're just asking someone to judge you based on photos and a few generic descriptions. Internet dating can be quite time consuming and if a profile doesn't have anything to draw my interest I tend to move on.

If I was to compare it to applying for a job, the profile is like the CV- a hook to make you want to start a conversation. At which point you really get to know each other. There aren't many people who would apply for a job with just their qualifications listed and a covering note saying if you want to know more ask me. (It's just a comparison and I know the analogy will break down, but it's a good start)

I'm not saying I expect an essay, but it's good to get a sense of the personality and the interests a person has.

I'm with you there HapPea, i tend to think if someone hasn't taken the time to describe and try to sell themselves then why would anyone want to buy them.
