It's like everything else in Tescos, some of the checkout operators make up the rules as they go along you would think the money was coming out of their pockets :D I have worked for Tescos on the checkouts for 15 years and I take any coupon/voucher as long as it scans because if you weren't meant to take it, it wouldn't scan would it. I work in the West of Scotland.
You couldn't move to the east of Scotland could you:rotfl: They don't take any coupons even when you buy the product here. I am near Elgin and Huntly and neither take any coupons. They read every single line on the back send for a supervisor who gets the manager and I just go off and shop elsewhere.

Very odd. I've noticed that Tesco Irlam has been mentioned a few times as a good place to get the Health and Beauty coupons yet they refuse to take them at the tills!

Have today been totally humiliated at Tesco(Irlam M/C). We are pretty skint at the mo whilst awaiting VERY delayed exam payments. Did my (careful) shopping and armed with various vouchers worked out that I could get everything I needed. Get to till decided to split the shopping into 2 batches just in case. So give 2 coupons 65p and 40p.She refuses them. I tell her the policy. She refuses them(There was no one behind me thank God) I tell her I am sure htat Tescos WILL take coupons. She shouts over to next till girl on checkout who agrees with her. So I get some of the other shopping but had to leave about 4 items(that I WOULD have been able to afford if they had taken the coupons) I wanted the ground to swallow me. Total humiliation. Just out of interest I called them when I got home and was told that they do not accept ANY coupons unless you buy the item.So Tesco Irlam is best to avoid unless you like VERY red faces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Has anyone had good or bad coupon experiences in SW London tescos? Clapham South, Brixton, New Malden or Wimbledon Metro?

    Thanks!

Yes they ARE somewhat odd in Tesco Irlam. Tried to return a kettle(that Tescos were recalling) only to be told that they knew nothing about it and could not do anything without the original till reciept:confused: when I told them about the advert that THEY had been running she asked me did I have it with me???? Anyway after about 10 VERY enjoyable mins another CS assistant comes up and says yes they do need them back.CS1 gets stroppy with ME:confused: "off you go upstairs with your kettle then:rotfl: :rotfl: .
I was born in Irlam and dont hate it(DO NOT live there though!!:rotfl: ) BUT....Tesco Irlam are VERY strange.:rotfl:

    Hi Annie
Know exactly what you mean about Irlam I had an awful experience there last Sat. Had some moc's but the young male assistant just kept saying you've not bought it so can't use coupon, I said I think I can use some but was really rude & wouldn't accept any. Was queue behind so felt very embarassed. I asked at CS desk on way out & was told wouldn't accept any unless had bought product. It's really put me off trying again

I dont understand if your cashier is saying they will not take the coupons why are people not asking for there supervisor, ( they ither soon change there tune, or the supervisor will accept them) and that should be in most stores

Have only tried Brixton twice but was refused both times unless you've purchased the product.

I worked for Tesco for seven years & the policy on accepting coupons changed from week to week & from manager to manager.

I used to just scan the coupons & if they scanned I'd take them, regardless of whether the customer had bought the item or not.

I was very lucky in that I never 'needed' my job at Tesco. It was always just a pin money job. Many of the staff at Tesco are not so lucky. Many rely on their job at Tesco & to lose their jobs would be devastating for them. Some Tesco section managers & store managers are pure evil & put the fear of God into their staff. When a cashier refuses to accept your coupon(s) it may well be that that member of staff really needs their job & is fearful of losing it.

If I'm worried about handing over vouchers I just pass the assistant my wodge of coupons with my clubcard and debit card and pretend that I've lost track of what I've bought - just say something like "Oh I've gone mad with my list and bought so much stuff will you just see if any of these still work?"
Hand the assistant everything together so they have less time to worry about whether you've got it in your trolley and they'll probably try all of the coupons.
