While slaving away on tesco checkouts this morning we were given information on the change in policy regarding coupons. The old system was:-
    * coupons cannot equal more than 20% of total shopping balance
    * a customer cannot use more than 3 coupons at a time

The changes now mean that you can pay for your entire bill using coupons!
    However, here are the conditions:-
    * You must use all different coupons, cannot have replicas of the same product
    * You cannot use coupons from other stores e.g. " somerfield award you 20p of pepsi"
    * You can use money-off coupons from different store e.g. " somerfield award you £5 off a £50 shop"
    * If you intend to buy a product e.g beans you can use two coupons for money off beans even if you've only bought one tin. This is the only way to use replica coupons.
So if you have a bill of £6.50 and have one coupon or a combination of lots of coupons that add up to this amount ( as long as the coupons are for different items) you can pay for your total shop in coupons!
p.s. don't forget your clubcard points too!

    Hi
Poor poor student is right I two have been told the same rules last week along with all my other collegues so it is nationwide as this was stated to us.

Thank you so much for this poor poor student and margg81.
As for abusing the system I think you'll find that for every coupon user there's tons of shoppers too embarassed to hand them over. Listening to local radio yesterday the fact that most don't use coupons and vouchers was the conclusion. So it makes me feel better knowing the fact that us addicts are in the minority and I don't think that Tesco or coupon issuers are loosing out on their large profits!!!

  • Thanks margg81! at last someone not so cynical! and of course im not saying continually do your weekly shop with just coupons because people will think your being suspicious but everything in moderation is fine. Just use the old " my sister works at tesco and she was told this" line, that seems a very good idea if you face any difficulty!

Sorry I am a little off-topic here but something Welshy typed really tickled me....

It sounds like we've stumbled into an AA Meeting (not that I;d know what one of those is like  ) but instead of alcohol we are all instead admitting out loud our sad tesco shopping addition....I think at this point it's my turn to stand up at this point and say that " Hi my name is Mark and I've also been a user and abuser of tesco vouchers for over a year now but am trying very hard to kick the habit as it's damaging my relationship and costing my family a fortune...it's getting me in trouble too and sometimes the security officers follow me round the store in case I am tempted to slip back into abusing my habit ;) "

I think this admission officially makes me a member of the ' The Addicted Raiders of Tesco Shops' club or TARTS for short...:D

Anyone else want to join!? :rotfl:

Yes I think I had better. I was a coupon virgin :o for years and have fairly recently (after discovering MSE) discovered the joys of couponing. I was addicted in a fairly short period of time and have even been reduced to asking friends and neighbours for their old magazines in order to "fix" my habit!:o ;) :D
So I stand before you and admit I am a TART :p :rotfl: :rotfl:

... The policy is that you can only use coupons for items bought ....

I'm probably being really really stupid here, but I've read this a couple of times from coupons threads and I don't get it - surely you can only use a voucher that says '20p off when you buy Better Beans Baked Beans 200g tin' when you have put the 200g tin of Better Beans Baked Beans in your trolley and taken it to checkout, not for a 150g tin of Heinz beands? Or am I totally misunderstanding what people are meaning?
I'm not using the quote btw as a particular person, just someone I noticed that had used the wording of this I've seen around, sorry in advance if you think I'm picking up on you - it's just me being thick I think lol.

Is there a thread somewhere that talks about voucher and coupon use at all that I can read up on, as I do tend to see and get lots of vouchers, but never really want the products they are selling (or they are still too expensive with the discount lol). Many thanks in advance :D
