Even if you were well enough to go, would you really want to spend two weeks with someone like her?
It is very possible that the loud lady will not believe that you are cancelling the holiday for medical reasons and may well draw her own conclusions that you had not really booked a holiday and now she has asked for proof you are trying to cover your tracks.
She never used to be like this, she's certainly got worse In the past year. As for attempting to accuse me of more, I was expecting it, I will have the proof (hospital letters, blood test results, letter from GP for the insurance company etc) so at least will have the ammo to disprove her, but not like that will do much in her case. She's already seen proof of the holiday but now is doing this, I wonder what her motives actually are, especially when this only started after I ended up in hospital when she saw what was happening.0 -
Might be a useful point...im not sure, but when she was told about my last round of tests, she said that I need to be well before holiday, because Ill ruin it for everyone else if I'm unwell when away. That comment did unnerve me.0

I'd cancel, no question of putting your health at risk, and wouldn't make a goodwill payment. They accepted the terms of the insurance same as you so can wait. I've been hit with health issue after health issue in the last two years, and if any friend acted like this they'd get short shrift.
Don't be aggressive, let them know the situation truthfully. If she kicks off , well... Is the friendship really worth it?

I appreciate the advice, and yes I'm glad I took the cover, she refused it, saying she would use the one included with her current account, but its a lot of money to pay so I insisted on decent and assured cover for the party! Ironic somewhat, considering it may have saved her nearly £1500!0 -
I think you may be right, If the insurance company settles quickly I can pay them in full immediately but if not they will have to stomach it. My financial position I would say is comfortable, I earn a reasonable wage, as for theirs, I'm not sure, its never been mentioned. Interesting theory.0

^^^ This. Exactly what I was thinking. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

I think your right, I only considered a goodwill payment to keep the peace, but in a way, why should I? When I have tried to sort it out and get slapped down. I have shown them in writing that the holiday was paid, my health is more important and I want to be better.
The insurance will pay the costs, they wont lose anything, nor will I but ill gain some valuable experience.0 -
I'd consider having to cancel the holiday the silver lining- she sounds an absolute cow !
I presume the bloke is your partner's friend as she doesn't sound like anyone's friend but just the girlfriend everyone tolerates because they like the bloke.
If she wants to be a biatch -let her. Let them know you have to cancel the holiday and send them photo copies of the insurance claim form and the supporting paperwork .
I wouldn't advance them the refund -she's an unappreciative cow who got a substantial discount. Let her wait !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

Valid point there! and one that made me laugh for the first time today! He is both of our friends, she went to school with my missus.0 -
If they want to cancel as well, that's ideal, but on the off-chance that they don't, might it be worth putting some feelers out with friends/colleagues to see if another couple wants to take your place? (I assume you weren't all sharing a giant bed?)Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0
