Jealousy of Motability car

Ugh people like this annoy the tits off me, I've had mobility car envy and we don't even have a mobility car! (Or a disabled tax disc). We have a land rover that OH pays for from his wages and I have a blue badge. Apparently having a blue badge automatically makes my car a free car, I've just started telling people to duck off when they start their nonsense.
If you receive Mobility allowance you are Entitled to a 1/2 price or free tax disc depending on your rate
Where I live in Hampshire and on my trips to Dorset "to see In laws" the Blue Badges are not valid unless you receive the higher/enhanced rate of benifit in certain places0 -
I'm on high rate DLA mobility but Oh uses the car to commute so we don't qualify for the tax disc as it's not used only for my benefit0

I heard from a close friend that "Friends" of ours are wingeing about how "Lucky" we are we got a "Free" car
Has anybody else experienced jealousy like this?
That is so sad.

NB: I didn't mean to imply that I approve of envy, but I know that it exists. My take on it is similar to those stickers you sometimes see: 'You've taken my parking space. Would you like to have my disability too?'
They thought it was wrong because we had financial help from the council. In their opinion, any work done should have been fully funded by us - something I can understand if we had been high earners, but unfortunately we weren't. My ex was a delivery driver and I had worked in a shop before I had to finish (finished as my son needed, and still needs, full time care. I did try working part time, but when you have been up several times in the night, and can't get a childminder, it is difficult. My mum was caring for my dad, who had developed dementia, so although she helped when she could, obviously my dad's condition made it hard for her to do this regularly. Instead, we supported each other.).
FWIW, the wet room was built almost eleven years ago and still has the same shower. The toilet needed replacing as the mechanics failed (it is a Closomat toilet). It has helped tremendously, and now that my son is finally toilet trained, it continues to be an asset for his needs.0 -
too many people think that if youre disabled and receive money because youre disabled ... then you should suffer!
we do striggle on a daily basis ... buty do i suffer? possibly not because the extra income stops me from suffering.
bad me because i chose to be disabled and chose not to suffer .,..

Simple they are not friends. Because if they were then they would have some understanding of why your wife was entitled to a) the benefit and b) the car.
Best to have a very small number of trustworthy friends. The rest are just people you know and best of not knowing and ignoring.Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy - Anne Frank :A0 -

This is my POV on it, too.
I've got a 2 year old Jag, bought from wages and also a blue badge. All I can wish is that I didn't have to pay for it, but I do.💙💛 💔0 -
It just goes to show a) how gullible/stupid some people are, and b) proves that the Government propaganda machine is running to plan.
The biggest problem is that there are so many mis-truths spread by the media, and the sheeple who believe everything it and the Government say about disabled people.
It's one of the reasons I chose not to have a Mobility car and instead use the money to fund treatments that are not available on the NHS, and also to offset the cost of reducing my working week to 4 days rather than 5, which allows me additional time to recover and recouperate such is the effect working has on my conditions.
I also think the name of the scheme needs to change. Motability implies that the cars are only for those who cannot mobilise/walk etc and this is not the case as has been demonstrated many many times.
Yes you have tyo have the higher rate of Mobility DLA? Enhanced Mobility for PIP, but it doesn't mean that the person with the car/award cannot walk at all. They may have limited walking ability, they may even not have any problem with their legs and be able to walk perfectly normally but may have a condition that means they run out of breath, or a condition that is affected by the act of walking such as a heart condition, they may have mental health issues that leaves thenm in danger when walking etc etc etc...
Yes there are people playing the system, but theres just as many, if not more, fiddling their expenses/taxes, and yet nothing ever seems to be done about them.
It also seems to be the case that many people who are against the motability scheme doen't realise that car car is given in exchange for the money that person is entitled to in DLA/PIP/etc. It isn't a free car, the person in receipt of the benefit is paying to lease the car. They never own the car at any time during the contract period. Many people also pay a deposit on the car they lease in order to get a better spec. These deposits used to be unlimited in terms of size but are now restricted to £2000 I believe which means that unlike in the past not every model of car is available on the scheme.
As for the person on page 1 of the thread who seems to have an issue with a person washing their car, is it wrong for a person to have pride in their posessions? It's also a fact that a car returned to the dealer in a good condition at the end of the contract means that the person can get back some of any deposit they may have paid on the car.
I could lease hire a car via a well known company which includes insurance/tax etc etc for a 3 year period privately for almost the same money as the motability scheme, and yet there seems to be a real problem with Motability.
In the 2 years following the recession a number of car manufacturers admitted that had it not been for the motability scheme there would have been a much bigger downturn in the new car industry than there was. One even suggested that Motability saved the New car Industry in this country.
Another benefit to the scheme, which everyone who is a car owner can enjoy, is the fact that once a car is returned there is the option for someone looking for a 2nd hand car to grab a bargain. Most of the cars from Motability have low mileage, they are all serviced annually, and most are spotlessly clean and tidy. It's what I intend to do once I have a bit of money available to buy a replacement car.
In many ways it is jealousy, and to be jealous of someone who has health issues just because of a car is very sad. In the main however I think it's simply the weak minded who have allowed themselves to be brainwashed and now believe everything that is printed about how the disabled are scroungers.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

People will always be jealous of things they can't have but others do.
I remember someone with a disability moaning because of the benefits we get and thinks they shouldn't exist. And then there was the person who claimed that blind people shouldn't use the disabled toilets. Many sight impaired people have other disabilities which make using a standard toilet difficult.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

i must say its never occured to me to use a disabled toilet!
im not passing judgement on those that do.... it had really not occurred to me
the worst offenders are quite often other disabled people.
i have been accused of being 'only blind' several times on this forum as if it should mean that i can manage everything tickety boo!
yes my legs work perfectly normally ... but unless i know where i am heading there is little point in walking anywhere!
