Nice to hear salmond has stepped down. I'm almost as happy about that as I am about the No vote!

I'm sure someone equally as loath-able will pop up to take his place though!

    I'm sure she will.

Have to agree that is better news than the result and I was so delighted with the result.

What they want and what they'll get are two different things. Both sides sold this as a 'once in a generation' opportunity.
Yes, but one side was Salmond and one side was Cameron; neither of them will be there in two years' time - result: clean sheet.

    She has said...
Alex's announcement today inevitably raises the question of whether I will be a candidate to succeed him as SNP leader.
I can think of no greater privilege than to seek to lead the Party I joined when I was just 16. However, that decision is not for today[\quote]

Just like Tony Bliar wasnt plotting the day John Smith died.
    God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.

That's one way of showing his commitment to the 1.6m people who put their trust in him.

Know what you mean but to be fair it was 'only' 900k who actually put their trust in him (as opposed to the concept of independence): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/special/election2011/overview/html/scotland.stm

Newspapers not invited to the Alex Salmond resignation press conference this afternoon: Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express. The Guardian declined to attend after they were told which one of their journalists would be allowed to attend.

Rather petty but not at all surprising unfortunately.

The silent majority spoke up when it mattered and common sense has prevailed in Scotland.

I wonder what people will think if there is reneging on the promised extra powers.
