But are quite happy to hang on the every word, (gospel like), of Alex Salmond??!
Sorry, I just dont get it.
I can understand it very easily, without buying into it. People are utterly disillusioned with 'the establishment' and in that state of mind they will grasp at the most ludicrous things. How else could you explain thugs like Mao, Castro, Pol Pot (let alone the all too obvious Austrian)?
That's not to make any sort of comparison between Salmond and that exalted infernal company - simply to show that unhappy people do irrational things.0 -

I guess it's similar to Farage getting so many votes and looking like winning a byelection.scott_lithgows wrote: »no argument here but add in the local thought process up here,
people with cash = No
people without or struggling = Yes
I think that's probably a very good assessment, I might say financially astute instead of with cash but probably equates to the same thing.
I can't see how anyone with any understanding or grasp of money/finance/economy could consider jumping into the unknown with no currency, uncertain economy and no EU membership.
Having said that the lack of EU membership bit might suit a few down south. Would be hilarious if the independence situation caused UKIP to move to Scotland purely because they were no longer in EU.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I don't really follow the logic .... are you really saying that nobody up there believes any politician any more? .... surely that would mean that the 'Yes' politicians aren't believed and the bankers, businessmen, generals, civil servants, economists etc. have been providing the truth after-all and the untrusted politicians have simply spun this as being 'negative' and brushed aside ?
Now I am confused ......
None of them either,it,s head v heart,as simple as that.
Add in the fact that there is no common ground and it's goodbye/hello again UKI have a deep burning indifference0 -

It wasn't a loss of passion that lost him the election. It was a loss of credibility. Brown and his ilk are a big part of problem.0 -
I would say that not all people willing to vote yes in this referendum have no understanding. I have a degree in economics and a good one at that as well as years of experience working in the financial services sector so feel that the comments about people having no understanding is very insulting. Yes I do agree that some people on both sides would blow in the direction of the slightest breeze but many voters are well educated and have made an informed decision.
I know our economy can't rely on oil long term or to any real extent, I also know that the currency issue is far from solved but if we use our own currency then it is still possible that things could work out. There are many smaller successful countries with their own currency and if we join the euro I genuinely don't feel that would be a bad thing as I feel that's the way the Uk will move in the future at some point once we come out from underneath our sovereign rock.
Membership of the EU is another issue to be decided but I feel that it is unlikely that the EU will want to offload 5.5 million of its citizens and many of our laws are already compatible with membership so the negotiations would not need to long term and this could realistically be achieved in the short term and losing the UKs opt outs on Euro and Schengen might actually help with a lender of last resort and also the impending demographic timebomb which could cause future economic stagnation.
I have been quiet in all respects during this debate however with less than 24 hours to go and a lot of harshness on this forum I feel it right to speak out. I am not voting yes but I want change I want change not just for Scotland but for all the nations on these wonderful islands there are 4 parliaments with one in each nation and I feel these should be used to focus on there own local people and a council of ministers consisting of the four elected first/prime ministers who discuss issues which matter to all of us such as defence, immigration, economy, etc but can use our local parliaments to focus on local spending on health, welfare using local approaches to solve local problems. taxes would be paid to these parliaments with contributions then being made to our joint ventures such as armed forces etc. The queen would be joined as head of state by an elected president who would represent our United Kingdom. this is a view of a federal Uk which is definitely something I would support as the current administration in west minister is about as relevant to Scotland as the administration is Beijing as no matter if Scotland votes one way if England votes the other our voices will be completely swallowed up. Plus our MPs get a say on English health etc when English Mps have no say on policy up here.
Hope tomorrow gives the result the whole UK needs the time for change is now as the current system simply can't continue.Proud dad to two little ones who light up every day
