I am such an idiot! When will I learn?

Thanks for your posts everyone - Ampersand i totally agree that I shouldn't of applied for the CC but I had thought i had thought it through and did the eligibility checker both on here and on the CC company's site - which said I was 90% certain to get the card! I will look into the CAP course (once my uni assignments are done!)
The fuel for next week was budgeted for in my monthly spends and I had made the decision not to go to the party last weekend saving me £150 so I could go to see my DD1 this week so this weekend is not an unexpected or unplanned spend - the £30 was unexpected though - but It was good catching up with good friends so I don't feel too bad it just means the rest of this month will need to be a little tighter than I had planned - but I can live with that! After all £6.40 a day should be achievable! (a no spend day today!!!)
Maybe I am too impatient and need to factor more into my budget for treats and slow down a little!0 -

I think this is something you really need to do. It's like when you get people who get so enthused about clearing their debts they throw every penny at it. Then the boiler or car breaks down and because they haven't allowed for emergencies they end up having to take on debt to pay for it. And so they end up back where they started.
A budget needs to be realistic and be flexible for it to work. I really advise you to get to grips with budgeting as it's an important thing to do even when you have cleared your debts.0 -
Thanks Hermia - I guess I am not really budgeting very effectively at the moment I am just throwing everything at the debt and hoping for the best!- I have downladed YNAB on the free trial and I know many on here rave about it but I just haven't taken the time to understand it to be honest - might look at this later in the week0

I recently got YNAB - it took a while to get my head around it but I think it's brilliant now. I set my budget and if something crops up which I haven't budgeted for (as you did with your unplanned £30 spend) that money has to come from one of your other budgets. It really makes you think about where your money is going.
It's definitey worth trying to watch the webinars - I only managed to do the first one but it certainly sorted things out in my mind.

...then off with the breadmaker to Ebay£250 shopping, diesel and any other spends
December 16- January 15 £345.06/250.00 -£95.06
£2 saving a day for christmas 2017 £0/£730
Total debt paid off before 26 December 2017 £3142.31/14,053.85 = £10911.54 left to go0 -
Agreed Cwtchie - easier, better, cheaper to bung flour, salt, a bit of lard, crumbled free yeast[<MrT] and water in a bowl and work it about.
Very forgiving mixture, cathartic activity, excellent exercise[anti-arthritic]for hands.
The lovely bread's a bonus, without the mess that a b/m makes.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Going to try to have a look at YNAB tonight - now my assignments are finished! I also really should look at ebaying - I am sure I have some bits I can sell. I spoke to energy supplier today about switching - hopefully I will get my £250 credit back before Christmas!
So cold tonight that I have had to put the heating on - but only for a couple of hours to take the chill off the house and did put the washing on the clothes horse rather than the dryer which I used to do! Anyway another no spend day today!!! But I will spend tomorrow - I need to go on a study day with work and need to pay tunnel fares of £3.40 but I will get it back at some point! But it will use the last of the cash in my purse and we are going to get to a loo roll crisis soon! Trying to eek it out until the weekend so I can do a proper shop in Al*i but unfortunately I cannot predict my households bathroom habits - so might have to get some tomorrow!0 -
Well done on getting the assignments finished:)
Loo roll is one thing you can't do without- though there are many interesting threads on MSE about "alternatives" !!!!!
Had heating on here too, but my lovely 13.5 tog feather duvet arrived today so hopefully that will make a difference. Just need to dig out the hot water bottles now.
Thinking about using my old thin duvet as a throw for the sofa for the winter evenings too.
Good luck with the ebaying:)LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
I am not sure I am DFW enough to consider some of the loo roll alternatives yet! lol so a relented and wet to Li*l - I was quite impressed - I rarely go there as there isn't on that close but I was on a course today so made a detour on the way home! Got loo roll bread, milk, bananas, cucumber, and a bottle of wine (might of slipped in a bar of 45p chocolate as a treat for DD3) it came to £11 but was desprate to try some of thier other bits - might make an efforet to go there when I need my next proper shop!- I am going to a friends tonight (hence the wine) for a party plan thing! I need to resist buying anything - only going to be social!
Asparagus i have several blankets on the couch - they drive me nuts to be honest - always looks untidy and the dog seems to manage to get one onto the floor most evenings! but kids all like them. I have a good duvet and I'm warm once i get to bed but yesterday my fingers just couldn't get warm. I put the heating on timer but turned the thermostat down but came home today and the heating had come on despite it not being that cold! Can't decide to turn it down more or switch it off completely - its just incase the house is freezing for my mum and the kids coming in from school. Decisions decisions!0 -
No, no judi - not 'Decisions decisions!' but 'hwbs, hwbs!' - much better and lovelier, hand-tailored personal warms:-)))
