Love the look of the lemoncello and might give that a go!
Bob YNAB is a bugeting software that is completely different from anything else - took a bit to get my head around it but I love it now and its really helping me see what I am spending and putting towards my debt - its adictive - you do have to pay for it which is something I wouldn't normally do but you get a 36 day free trial so you can try it out. There a good number of people on here who say it has made a huge difference - early days for me but I can definately see its value0 -
Hey
I just wanted to pop in and say hi, I've been lurking on your thread and several others for a while (reading through it all before I got an account, and finally bit the bullet last week and signed up).
I think you're doing really well, such a big change since the beginning of your diary. I love all the frugal xmas ideas, I might have a look at trying some of them. You seem so much more in control now, it's great to read!
It's also really interesting to read that you like YNAB, I've had the emails, and have been toying with getting the free trial, but havn't actually downloaded it yet, as I keep putting it off. I've been budgeting and recording ALL spends for 3 months now (on a spending app), but it still feels a bit scary to actually have a real "budget" software!
Hope you don't mind me de-lurking and that the pulled pork was scrummy!

Thanks Judi. I use a free app which I just make sure I update after every transaction in or out of my bank account so I wonder whether it would do more than that?" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Just wanted to say hi, I've just read your whole thread and it's brilliant to see the differences you have made in a few months - inspiring for those of us just starting out!0

Thanks for reading Purplepenguin and Pink Giraffe (love the names!!!) - glad I've inspired you but I have a long long way to go and my problem in my past atempts to get debt free has been that I slip back into bad habits after a while - I am hoping that keeping a track on here will help but although I had a few comments early on about me not having had my LBM - I really feel like I have had a change in mindset! just need to hope I can keep it up!
Bob - I think YNAB is quite different from a spending app and spread sheet (which is what I used to use) - it allows you to actually allocate pots of money to very specific categories and also allows you to keep track of all accounts (CCs and bank accounts) in one place - you would have to try it and see what you think but you can do that for a month. There are losts of training sessions you can do too - so might try that to make sure I can get the most out of it.
In relation to Christmas - I am enjoying planning it so much more than just going out and spending money and enjoying making things. Reminds me of what Christmas is all about!
Got my P45 from my old work - definately looks like they will pay my on call this month as the pay to date amout from my last wage slip is slightly less than the pay to date on my P45. There is also a difference between the tax paid on my wage slip to the tax it says I have paid on my p45 and I don't know why! its about £800 less on the p45 than the actual tax paid on my wage slip - I need to investigate why!!! Either I have paid too much or not enough!!! Confused!!!
Also decided to apply for CSA - my ex should be paying it! and I just need to be brave!0 -
Just delurking to say (just in case no-one else does) please check the dates / week nos on the P45 & payslip. It is possible that the P45 was issued before the last pay run was done & could mean an overlap which could mean a short fall in tax paid. It seems to have become quite common since this real time reporting started.0

Thanks patanne - pay slip is period 6 so to 30th Sept (not had period 7 yet) p45 is to period 7 and created on the 23rd October
I have posted on the cutting tax forum to see if anyone there can make sense of it - i could of course be patient and wait until I get my last payslip at the end of the week - but patience is not one of my virtues!!!0 -
I've just seen your figures on there which is why I came back! I think that you have a tax rebate as your pay for period 7 is less than your tax allowance for the month. It means when you get paid again in month 7 you will have more tax to pay - just so you are warned!0
-
Thanks Patanne - I think the best thing to do is to wait and see what my wage slip from old job says and then see if it all realigns when i get paid next month on my proper tax code from my new employer - I am just so impatient!0

Got a list of things to do in relation to finace and keep forgetting (procrastinating I think!) so going to do a list:
1. ring council tax and change payments to 12 months not 10
2. ring CSA and get process started - going to go with the option for them to manage the process even though I will pay a fee - my ex will not be nice about it at all!
3. Get broken phone repaired then cancel insurance
4. cancel sons laptop insurance (not even sure what it covers!)
5. See if i can get a cheaper pet insurance (it has doubled this year!)
6. Ring martinkaye solicitors re PPI miss selling letter (could get messy as the acount the PPI was for was a joint mortgage 10 years ago with my ex - but almost certainly worth a fair bit - will need to talk to ex which will be a challenge especially as I also need to talk to him about DS treatment and CSA for DD3!! I guess the idea of PPI refund might sweeten the pill!)
7. contact credit reference agencies and have my ex removed from connections to me - he has financial issues and a recent letter from M&S money turning down a current account application highlighted financial associations as a reason!!! - my plan is to get my credit score up so I can get a 0% card sometime next year - so getting my house in order now!
8. Updates signature with new balances once loan payment goes out
That should keep me busy!0
