There's something to be said for "you catch more flies with vinegar than honey".

It's the other way round, but you're right!
Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman
  • Totally agree. I am amazed how many people are defending the !!!! that honks his horn. How on earth is it acceptable? I would be furious if he did at 7am or 8am as there is no reason whatsoever for him to do it.

I don't think anyone is defending him, on the contrary. What people are commenting on is the appropriate reaction in the circumstances.

I'm lucky enough to be able to get back to sleep, and on a recent job when I had to get up early found I was waking before the alarm - on three consecutive days even to the exact same minute. Perhaps the mum to be can use this as training for waking naturally and then getting back to sleep again!
  • What I don't understand is why the OP seems to have completely ruled out trying to solve this issue through the proper channels (ie the council and neighbourhood police)? Why bother asking the question on here if he's already made up his mind in his head to go down the childish retaliation route?

Often all it takes is a letter from the council giving a warning or a knock on the door and chat from the local PCSO to sort a problem (that's why they start with that action!!! it WORKS a lot of the time) - why not give that a try? Yes, if that doesn't work the process of getting and enforcing a noise abatement notice or an ASBO can be long and drawn out, but surely it's worth trying? A reasonable person would give it a go before automatically jumping to the conclusion that it wont work and getting involved in a tit for tat war (that will probably upset the other neighbours and cause more stress for the pregnant girlfriend that OP is supposed to be so concerned about).

    Grow up.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Ha ha, what an idiot! Funnily enough, LO had me up early this morning so the sleep deprivation is showing!

Have you actually read every post? If so then I think you will find comments that one honk of a car horn is not a problem, should not wake anyone, if it does wake someone they should be able to go back to sleep straight away. There is a comment saying 6.30am is not that early!!! Also that most people are up at that time. Strange then that I only know maybe 3 people that are up that early - even friends/neighbours that work don't get up before about 7.30. There is a comment saying that it's like people moving to a rural area and complaining about cocks crowing and church bells ringing (ridiculous comment).

There are also quite a lot of comments about when the baby is born they are likely to have sleepless nights anyway. I think a baby crying is totally different to a full grown idiot knowingly making an unnecessary noise early morning

People have certainly made the comments you mention but none of those are excusing the neighbour's behaviour and I don't see why you should see it that way.

Exactly. The OP came on here asking for advice, which is what he got. Some people said "just ignore it you'll be moving soon enough", others said "go to the police"....neither of which suited the OP.

So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what he wants us to suggest exactly? As browneyedbazzi says above, the OP already seems to have made his mind up about retaliating, so the point of this thread is what exactly?

There is none, other than side arguments about the legitimacy of the effects of sharp sudden wakings of pregnant women.

That was my comment, and I stand by it. I don't work and I'm up by 6.30 every morning, though I felt lazy this morning and stayed in bed reading until nearly 8 as its a bank holiday. Most of my neighbours get up early too - I can see their lights on. Go to a train station in the morning and see packed platforms. Ditto motorways. I used to catch a train at 6.45 and there wouldn't be a single seat left by the stop after mine. Perhaps the people who live and commute near me have a stronger work ethic than in your area :D

Whilst I agree that your neighbour is acting like an arrogant lout, I think you are making a fuss unnecessarily. 6.30 is not early. You'll be woken up a whole site earlier than that when you have the baby.

You've asked him to stop, he hasn't, you'll be moving in five months, just ignore it and move on.

6.30am is early for a lot of people. I am up by about 6 in the summer but quite a bit later in the winter (I let the light wake me up). I know a lot of people who don't get up before 7.30 (lots work) and quite a few who don't get up much before 8.30 - 9am.

Woken by a baby is totally different to being woken by an idiot honking a horn
Well bully for them that they don't have either a long commute, or an 8am start time. I know a good number of people who have both, including some who are already on a train by 6:30am to make that 8am start.

However, as others have said, that doesn't make it right to beep the horn at 6:30am or at any time outside of 9am to 6pm (after that, it could be argued that it disturbs children going to sleep), and I don't see why it is necessary at ANY time of the day or night.

Of course some people are up early but lots are not. I worked for 40 years and never ever got up as early as 6.30 even when I had an hour and a half commute. The earliest I got up was probably 7.30 but then I can get ready in 20 minutes.

I get up far earlier now that I don't work.
My son's girlfriend is on a bus every morning by 6.20 to get to work for 7 a.m.

When my son is on early shift, he is out on his cycle by 6.30 to get to work for 7.

I myself used to be up by 6.30 to get to work by 8, when I was working.

In fact I know more people who are up at that time than not.

However, it IS too early to blow car horns, but as the OP is moving on, I don't think it is worth making a fuss about.

I know more people who are not up at that time than are and most of them work
