so over 500 compers are regularly using the 'spam' button to get rid of self promotion threads!!!??? in that case it's worse than I thought :( although I'm surprised there's only one or two admitting to it?

I think there are more peeps that use the spam button when reading through the boards
as lots of the posts/threads are deleted afterwards,
i'm not going to get into a debate about it & I've deleted my post
as it seems my opinions/views aren't welcome anyway.
please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly. k2u58ioz4c8e.png

everybody's views are welcome :) especially the post you have for some reason deleted :)
I started this thread as I thought only a 'few' people were using the spam button inappropriately, your post was enlightening to the fact that 'most' members do this so thank you :)

Fire*fly you really shouldn't go deleting your own posts because you think they might not be welcome. Every single post here serves a purpose - some of them more than one!

I took the stick from some members to post my opinion.

I will never know why some members feel it is ok to make fun & belitte other peoples opinions.

If people don't post their opinions then nothing can be worked out.

Fir**Fly post what you want to.

It's just a shame how other people react to it

Just a bit of follow up to my post from last night. I received another email saying that unless I can provide a link to why I think a member is self promoting, or have some other evidence, that I don't make a report in future. So, as it's impossible for us to provide evidence i.e no access to IP's and email addresses then MSE is open to self promotion because MSE Admin have better things to be doing than checking for self promo. I must admit to having pressed the spam button in the past for self promotion usually because somebody has posted press the spam button on the thread.

Given we have been asked politely not to do this I will now report self promotion in the way requested.

Yes I am such a goody goody.

What I don't get was people getting upset over being told that's not what the spam button is for and even after having it explained still wanting to use it for self promotion anyway.

Would depend on how blatant the self promotion is really.

Easy to show if they have used their real name as a username then you can show how they are connected to the company; I use facebook, linkedIn etc

So I would agree that in some cases we can't but I feel you are overstating it to say impossible.

Yeah, obviously if someone signs up with a username 'BHSMarketing' and posts a comp for BHS then that's a tad easy to spot, but if someone signs up with a username 'MSEComper54' then yes, it's impossible. Any self promoter with half a brain wouldn't sign up with their real name if they wanted to hide the fact they are self promoting.

just a question to try and understand,
if someone signed up as MSEComper54 and posted a comp, what would make you think it was self promotion anyway? :)
