Self promotion is NOT the same as spam

Because the comps on the board are found & posted by members who are not associated with the company's that run them.
Which is within the forums rules
The comps that are posted on here who are friends of, & work with the people they are posting the comps for.
Which is self promotion which is against the forum rules. Well it used to be.

I'll say yes it does matter Moneybot. It's free advertising, which afterall is what a competition is for. Comps are mostly posted on websites as a promotion for a film, product, album etc, or they are their to get more twitter followers, facebook followers, newsletter sign ups etc.
MSE was and isn't set up as a free advertising tool for merchants or blog / website owners.
If genuine MSE members find and post anything here be that a comp, a money saving tip, a voucher or a bargain then great - that's what it's for and that's why we post to share with others. But merchants using MSE to promote themselves is wrong. If they want to do that then MSE should at least charge them a listing fee as advertising aint cheap. But then if we allow merchants to use MSE then surely we'll get swamped with crap.
I don't understand why merchants even self promote comps here 'cos afterall I'm pretty sure that at least 95% of comps that are out there do get posted by genuine MSE users.UEFA: Corrupting Football Since 1954 #CTID0 -

I fear I have had one two many G&Ts.
So self promotion of a competition on this site is a bad thing but a mse poster of the same competition is a good thing.
I see as we are not being paid to promote the competition it must be good as we are stupid enough to work for free but anybody who is paid to do that or has self interest in posting the comps is bad?
George Orwell you are sadly missed.
I also fear I am now on LO's ignore list I knew one day it would come to this but so soon?
Edit what if you copy the competition from hotdeals and then post it here?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

That's actually a really good idea.
If we see Self Promotion don't click the report button, after all they don't do anything about it & if we see spam or what we think is spam don't click the spam button then it can't be wrong to click the button in the first palceThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Or maybe I haven't had enough G&T.
I may have imagined you earlier then reporting a self promotion post as spam?
When I have reported self promotion it does appear to have been deleted.
The point of clicking the spam button is to stop the forum from being overrun by spam.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

Ok here is why I clicked Spam instead of self promotion, though I have no idea why I have to explain myself, but here we go.
They want you to pay 20p to enter their competition
For me this rung warning bells
I searched the net about the company & can't find anything on them.
They seem to be advertising listings that are on Amazon & Ebay. I don't know why because if people want something they search there them self
My gut feeling about this competition is they are trying to get peoples details.
Yours may be different from mine, but I did what I thought was rightThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
