Self promotion is NOT the same as spam

if you genuinely have no association to the site then I don't see a problemEx forum ambassador

There is something I would like clarificationa about. If somebody posts some competitions on here and then somebody else realises that they have been self-promoting and their posts are removed. If I then see some more competitions on that person's site, am I allowed to post them here, or is that effectively endorsing the self-promotion?
I think the one which would be dodgy is where somebody reports the post as self promotion and then posts the same competition themselves.
At one time this did appear to be happening on a regular basis.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

No - the one I have in mind is one I just saw on here, then someone else mentioned it was self-promotion, then the posts vanished. I have visited the site since and seen more competitions appear on it, but was not sure if I was allowed to post them. I will post them when I am next online.0 -
I don't think I've ever come across genuine spam on the forum.
As for self promotion, that's for MSE to deal with.0 -

Unless you are a blogger. You can be friends with other bloggers & even work with other bloggers & post their comps on MSE.
As long as you are a follower of the blogs you post.

If it is obviously self-promotion then as far as I am concerned it is spam, and I will continue treating it as such. Thanks to all who post constructively.

But it depends on what MSE's definition of spam is. If it is something like "multiple copies of the same post" then most self promotion wouldn't come into this category.
In my experience, Admin like to have some sort of proof before they delete posts for self promotion and just clicking the spam button doesn't provide this.0 -

From the forum rules
"What's spam?
Forum users mustn't post comments more than once on the forum (the only exception is members of the MSE Team; when needed). It's called spamming and most internet forums forbid it. Where spam is reported to the Forum Team, the posts are deleted and the user's posting privileges may be removed. Please don't quote any post you believe is spam, as this causes the team more work.
Several boards on our forum have a spam button. If enough forum users click the spam button on a thread, that thread will automatically be deleted. The Forum Team may choose to leave it deleted or re-instate it."
So posting a competition once isn't spam even if it's your competition.
Thus self promotion isn't classed as spam unless posted more than once by the same person and as already posted the way to report it is by pressing the report button not the spam button.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

Posting the same thing twice is enough.Forum users mustn't post comments more than once on the forum (the only exception is members of the MSE Team; when needed).
