Any self promoter with half a brain wouldn't sign up with their real name if they wanted to hide the fact they are self promoting.

Yes but most people who sign up for the express purpose of promoting their company's comps don't even know that it's not allowed. (I say most, perhaps at least half of them) so they wouldn't necessarily try to hide the fact they were self promoting, even if they had half a brain!

I must admit to having pressed the spam button in the past for self promotion usually because somebody has posted press the spam button on the thread.

Given we have been asked politely not to do this I will now report self promotion in the way requested.

Yes I am such a goody goody.

What I don't get was people getting upset over being told that's not what the spam button is for and even after having it explained still wanting to use it for self promotion anyway.

That saying "upset" I am hearing a lot lately when ever people post their views on a subject.

What I don't understand is where they get the idea that people who have points of view & are expressing them are "upset"?

I for one was not "upset" at all, I was posting a reply to the thread the same as a lot of other people have & yet I was the only one who was seen as "upset"

So if people have differing opinions to you, or are not seeming to understand what has been said by others or by you & they take time to reply to the thread again I can assure you they aren't "upset" :)

I'm so glad you feel you can speak for everybody and say nobody is upset.

Why did you think it was you who was seen as upset anyway? I must have missed the post where somebody said you were.

I have read your last sentence several times now and I still can't really understand what point you were making except only people who agree with me, understood what was being said and didn't reply on the thread are upset?

I fear I have had one two many G&Ts.

So self promotion of a competition on this site is a bad thing but a mse poster of the same competition is a good thing.

I see as we are not being paid to promote the competition it must be good as we are stupid enough to work for free but anybody who is paid to do that or has self interest in posting the comps is bad?

George Orwell you are sadly missed.

I also fear I am now on LO's ignore list I knew one day it would come to this but so soon?

Edit what if you copy the competition from hotdeals and then post it here?

Ah that was because it took you 8 hours to post a reply to a question and I incorrectly assumed you must have not seen my post. Sorry about that.

I didn't so much imply that you were upset as you inferred I had done so.

PS I'm so pleased I'm not on your ignore list btw.

You are correct now I look back my original question was posed at 2.42pm and you replied at 8.20pm.

You were on the board during that time hence my concern regarding being on your ignore list.

I've got 8 windows open on my chromebook & dip in & out of all of them, so my green light may be showing as being on the board, but perhaps I was actually somewhere else.

    Or entering comps.

I don't know but anyway you got a reply in the end

    Fibber :p;)

So, let me get this straight.

MSE don't want us to report suspicious posts that could be self-promo unless we have solid proof? I could understand if a johnsmith posted a comp for a company which happened to have a John Smith as a CEO, as the chance of having one of the most common names is, well "most common" gives it away :D

But if someone called PrincessConstantPeardrops posts for a company that has someone with exactly the same name, then it can't be reported without proof?? Surely the name is proof enough, I mean, there can't be two people named as badly as that? (Apologies if there is actually someone with that name - I hope you changed it as soon as you could :D )
    Thanks to all posters :A

As you said if PrincessConstantPeardrops posts and you can show PrincessConstantPeardrops works for the company then that is your proof.

Haven't seen anything to suggest that wouldn't be good enough.
