I know people can't promote their own comps here but...

If somebody is consistently posting comps from the same obscure place, and hardly ever posting for any other reason, I tend to report them and let the FMT decide whether I'm being unnecessarily paranoid or not. :rotfl:Thanks to all who post constructively.

That's the trouble it really makes you question yourself in the end :rotfl:
Oh well tomorrows another day

The aspect I always consider when I see a self-promoted competition on here is this:
If they are dishonest enough to pretend that they just happened to "stumble" across this "great" competition then how likely are they to judge that competition properly?
ie ~ Are they just going to award the prize to one of their insider friends as so often happens?
The one I was suspicious of today was this one:

Nice work RR
You have got the job

Here we go again
Ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the "bloggers" that post other bloggers comps up are subscribed to that said blog, just as others may be, receive emails advertising the comp from said blog (you know, what normally happens when you have to subscribe to enter a previous comp) just as others may receive, yet are quicker off the mark to get them posted??
No, didn't think so
Maybe, instead of getting on your high-horse as it's one less comp for you to post, you realise that this is an open forum, and anyone has the freedom to post comps they find. Unless it's obvious self-promo, just report and move on. Anyone would think you had endless hours to wasteThanks to all posters :A0 -
It's not as simple as that. If they post them as part of a broad mix of comp posts, fair enough. However, if that is essentially all they are posting then it is reasonable to pass it to the FMT for consideration. They make the final call, not us.Thanks to all who post constructively.

And again, not as simple as that either.
There are so many people on this forum now that constantly add to it that it's more than likely a comp will already be posted.
Some people only choose to do certain types of comps - if I had only ever done blog comps, it's more likely for me to only post blog comps. As I am a blogger, will I get targeted for breaking those rules?
I know of people who have! They have been targeted by certain members of the forum and basically ordered to stop posting certain comps!
What I don't understand is why is it not ok for me to post a fellow bloggers comp, yet it's fine for people to take the comp from here and literally copy & paste it onto their own site?!
ETA: not so much "not ok" but more I'll be suspected of self-promo via being a blogger
(My original post wasn't aimed at you RR)

on that reasoning maybe you should report for eg gmneil for only posting comps from ohsoamelia.com or maybe painkiller for only posting shortlist comps (maybe he works for them) etc, or is it ok because they've been a member for more than a year? Everyone has to start somewhere though

I accept that I'm fairly new around here, but my understanding is that other forum users don't have the right to tell you what to do. It's ultimately up to the FMT to decide who is right or wrong.
Nobody likes bullies. If I see people chucking their weight around in threads, telling people what they can and can't do, I report them (not the people that they are chucking their weight around with). I do believe that somebody here, that had a habit of doing that a lot, permanently had their posting rights removed fairly recently by the FMT.
Not sure who RP is, incidentally... :rotfl:
If a comp is a good comp then I don't really care who posts it. However, please don't take offence when I say that very few blog comps that I have seen would fit my definition of a good comp :rotfl:
Wow, Glad actually posts occasionally! :rotfl:
No idea who gmneil is, but Painkiller posts comps that are probably in my top 5 favourite comps to enter.Painkiller!
Thanks to all who post constructively.
