I know people can't promote their own comps here but...

My point is you are trying to penalise people from posting comps for people they know (probably only online), who's to say that person asked them to post on here though?
What if I see a comp run by an mse member on their blog. don't have any correspondence with them, just think it is a great comp so post on here is that wrong?
According to the rules there's nothing wrong with that.
Like I said before, no point making a big song and dance about it. just report and move on.0 -
The problem arises when the 'blog' makes money.
When they sell advertising or get free items for giving a (good) review or for hosting a prize draw.
Some blogs have a ridiculous number of sponsored giveaways all running at the same time.
It's not amateur night it's a business.
Getting a friend to post your sponsored giveaways here becomes free advertising by the back door.0 -
Blogs now are not how blogs were a year ago.
Many now make a lot of money from their blogs, one way being promoting a company's product in a review & giveaway.
Company's look for busy blogs to hold their comps.
Having their blog's competition posted on MSE brings them a lot more money in through the traffic it generates.
Why should these blogs gain off the back of MSE by breaking the rules to get their comps posted here?
Oh gholmes724,
I've changed my mind, I will hold a comp on my blog, just follow my blog somehow then post it onto MSE.
Cheers :beer:This Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
And just to let MSE know,
I am following 3,864 blogs which have held or are holding a blog comp. There are more blogs out there
That is a awful lot of self promotion coming to the comp board if bloggers are allowed to post other blogger friends comps as long as they follow each other
Good luck with that oneThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
Wow!
This has been a huge eye opener to me.
So basically if you are a blogger you can self promote any blog any one of your friends run.
The MSE Rules Say:
'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales
So the bloggers who are friends can over ride this rule?
The longer I am a member of MSE the more the rules are rules for some & not for all.
If I ever decided to run a comp on my blog (which I have no intention of doing) I can email a blogger friend & hey presto on MSE it goes.
Epic fail from MSE
Sorry but I don't really understand this post, linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not) is advertising, and advertising is not allowed here. Surely the rules are the same for everyone? :rotfl:Thanks to all who post constructively.

Nope
There are two bloggers who run their own blogs which make money & also run a FB blogger group & a blogger website.
They post each others comps & other bloggers comps.
But that's OK because they follow all the blogs they post comps forThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

My point exactly!!
Having their blog's competition posted on MSE brings them a lot more money in through the traffic it generates.
What a stupid thing to say! In all the comps I held on my blog (3 of which were off my own back) I never made any money! Yes, I did attract more people (obviously with the better prizes), but it never gained me any monetary value!
Unless someone is being paid to host a comp, and that's not very often heard of unless it's a very well-known blog, it just adds a few stats on top. And all the stats mean is they are more likely to get shared, noticed etc.
Basic advertising - same as any other comp.
The rules are a bit vague to be honest. Thinking about it, how does a company running a comp make money? I know there is a chance of competition entrants becoming customers, but we all know that's not a guarantee. Thanks to all posters :A0 -
Not targeting anyone,
There are lots of bloggers cheating their comps onto MSE. I'm fed up of the rules apply to some people & not to others.
If MSE are not going to uphold the rule of the forums then they need to change themThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Exactly what is happening with well known blogs off the back of MSEThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
Hey
Don't call someone stupid and an idiot, you wouldn't like it if someone said that to you.0
