Postwoman lets herself in

Having lived in a very rural area for 12 years it wouldnt worry me at all... our postie would pop the post inside the front door.. we didnt have a letter box, and also didnt have a lock on the door!!
Where we live now the postie will leave parcels next door for us... I get cross with delivery peeps who chuck things over the back gate, and then get soggy!!!"Aunty C McB-Wik"
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

Same here.As I said earlier in the thread, my postman drops it in the kitchen if our side door is open.
I am getting the general impression that most country folk/people living rural, seem to be OK with it, but 'townies' are not keen.0 -

So do you leave the keys in from the inside & unlock when people knock?
If that was me I would feel funny locking myself in. I just grab the handle & open the door it's what I'm used to.
Also I have my car keys on the same keyring & I would worry about people hooking them & stealing the car - you door hear of that happening with keys left near the door.
Don't you feel odd having to unlock the door with a key when someone knocks? Like you live in Fort Knoxs :-)
Another reason I don't like locking with keys I worry about fires & I like my escape route to be unobstructed.0 -

I live in a village & have done for a few years now. I was raised in a city.
Maybe it's because I'm a woman living alone.0 -
Tommorrow it will be that the postwoman let herself in and made herself a cup of tea or nicked a bra or something.0

Yes, mainly. Unless I'm sitting in the living room where I would see anyone coming down the path.

Think of it as not locking yourself in but rather locking everyone else out.

Nope. If it was like Fort Knoxs it'd have numerous locks, bolts and other security measures. As it is, it's a simple turn of the key.....hardly rocket science is it?! Takes less than a second..
.
If I'm out and not pottering round the house, then yes of course the door is locked as my husband is upstairs, 2 floors up in his office, so unlikely to hear if anyone entered.
I fail to see how a door with an outside handle is bizarre! :rotfl: I guess we all have our different ways of thinking!0 -

I guess because I think of a front door as the barrier to the world. Something you have to open to admit people through.0 -
I swear to goodness if I was walking past my front door and the postie opened it he would get a punch in the face and the police would be called ASAP!!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
Then lock the door.
You can even put a note on the door saying "Please put post through letter box".
I have been reading through this thread and have felt like replying to a number of posts so far, but this, oh wow this, I just have to respond to.
PUT A NOTE ON THE DOOR.???......Are you kidding.???
The person has a LETTER BOX...... You know, those things which are used to PUT LETTERS IN, so as to retain privacy within your own home, and, to stop you from actually having to go to the door when the post-person calls with letters that would otherwise fit into the box.?
It is NOT acceptable for a postal worker to actually open a closed door to place mail inside a property, UNLESS this has been specifically agreed between the owner and postie.
I have not even finished reading the first page of this yet, and have the feeling there will be more daft replies like this one. Honestly, why should people have to lock their doors when they are at home? That is their choice to either do or not do, and, doing so in order to keep postal workers from entering uninvited, just to leave mail inside a house / bungalow / flat whatever that ALREADY HAS a mail box / letter box, is completely and utterly wrong.
