Postwoman lets herself in

Maybe I am getting too cynical but the woman sounds like an untrustworthy chancer to me.
What on earth has made you say she is untrustworthy? Shes been inside the property when no one is obviously around and the OP hasnt mentioned about anything going missing.
As the OP says, practices are very different in different places and its not a one size fits all. When I was a kid and lived in a semi rural area the milkman would take the bins out for us if we had forgotten even though it meant walking around the back of the house and carrying them round (werent wheelie bins back then). A) I cant remember the last time I saw a milkman andI really couldnt see any milkman/ postie etc around where we are now carrying a bin around for you unasked.
Personally I wouldnt be too keen on people coming in my house unannounced but then thats why I lock my front door.0 -
I'm a tad confused as to how your front door must work - do you have a handle on it? Does it look like it might be a porch door but opens straight into house?
The door is in a recessed porch area which I think makes it clearer that it's a front door and deliveries are usually left at the side of the front door behind a recycling box.0 -
I think an informal chat to the postwoman may be the best way forward. I shall ask her if there's a reason why she opens the front door to put the letters in. That doesn't sound confrontational does it?0

It's easily solved, just keep the door locked. She'll soon get the messageLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Ha
I'm just the opposite
I had to tell the new relief not to knock the door unless he needed a signature. If there is a car in front it means someone is home so he's just to open the door and leave the mail on the table
Thing is I've a dog that goes ballistic when the doorbell goes He's a softee but does so like the sound of his own voice
Anyone calling at the house knows just to open the door and come on in.
Only time the door gets locked is if there is no one in0 -
i am absolutely shocked by this behaviour:eek: who lets themselves into someone else's home esp when they are working?! you are not friends, you dont even know each other. how dare she just come into your home?
i would definitely make a complaint about this as i deem it unacceptable.Don't sweat the small stuff0 -

There is no justifiable reason for the postwoman to open someone's door and walk inside their property in order to deliver something. If it were all above board and not open to question then it would be a more common occurrence amongst posties. I have never known one to do this. I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her, and if she were my postie she would find the door locked when she tried her luck! The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
We currently have our first postie who doesn't do this, which is very frustrating as it's also the only postie I have had who doesn't find somewhere to leave parcels if you aren't in, especially as our local sorting office is only open when I'm at work.0

OP how does she deliver your neighbours letters? You say you live in a rural area, as I have always done. My mums post person always will open the door and shout that they are there and mail delivered. It gives mum a chance to hand any mail that needs to be posted to them. This has always been the way. Like with you no doors are locked.
I read the different attitudes from people in this thread who I'm assuming are not rural living. It's all different in the country.0 -
Ha ha, yes I have a letterbox. Other postal workers manage to use it.
Then lock the door if you have a problem with it, that's the easiest way to solve it.
Depending on which postie we have, some knock and some just open the door and put the post on the telephone table by the door or sometimes they throw it on the floor. If it's just letters then it's through the letter box. The above happens usually only when it's parcels or a lot of post.
At first I was abit taken about it, but now it doesn't bother me. They even do it if they can see my sitting there in the living room. Rightly or wrongly, it's a thing a lot of posties do, and if it bothered me I'd be having a word with her first rather than reporting her. If it carried on, then I'd report her if it bothered me.0
