Why do people not have their doors locked anyway? Isn't there another thread like this on the families board at the minute? About door locking.
I often leave my front door unlocked, but have no issue with my postman putting my post inside.
If I did I would lock my door, so they weren't able to step in. ( they just reach in and drop it, or prop it against the wall).
In the future I hope to put a box up for them so they don't have to come through the gate unless there is a parcel, because it will be easier for them in nasty weather.0 -

Not seen the other thread. I don't lock my front door as I work from home which involves sitting at a desk right next to the front door.
I live in a very rural area and it is VERY different from towns/cities as people don't always lock their door at night let alone during the day. Kids leave their bikes out and parcels are left in the porch with no fear of them disappearing. Totally different to how life was when we lived in a city.0 -
I have never heard of posties coming into a house to drop off post. Surely this is why they invented letterboxes? Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

I'm a tad confused as to how your front door must work - do you have a handle on it? Does it look like it might be a porch door but opens straight into house?
Mine is a flat front door with just holes for two keys. Doesn't sound very safe having an unlocked front door with a handle anyway. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe you're sitting there with your front door open as in literally open or ajar. In that case, I'd say that's different.

Our old postie used to open the door to leave things which wouldn't fit through the letterbox - he did used to knock first though and only let himself in if no-one was at home.0

I can't see where I gave the impression I think of myself as superior to a postal worker? I have admiration for them delivering in all weathers and I have family who in the job.
I'm complaining because ONE postal worker has opened my front door to put letters on my desk rather than pushing them through the letter box like every other postal worker manages to do.
Ah, I don't recall you mentioning having a letterbox until this reply, I guess I'm looking at it from the perpective of sort it locally rather than get the person in trouble, they have a hard enough time as it is.
I supposed my reply is biased as the apprentice that sits behind me is upset that another colleague who had a query on an order, emailed him, but copied his manager into the email (pure backstabbing, and to achieve what?) .
Anyways, if I couldn't get it resolved locally then perhaps a complaint but it would be a last resort for me. What you choose is up to you.0 -
Maybe I am getting too cynical but the woman sounds like an untrustworthy chancer to me. There is absolutely no need for her to be entering your property in order to drop off the post. Lock your door to put a stop to it and raise your concerns with those who can address this unprofessional conduct with her is my advice. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

I can only guess that she is either trying to make a connection (maybe its nice to say hello to someone?) or that your letter box is one of those really annoying teeny ones, so its easier to open the door than squeeze them through. I guess she might not be able to see the letter box??
Either way, I would just either lock your door for a week or so or just politely ask her to use the letterbox.0 -
If it's an issue for you then simply have a quiet word and ask her if she would mind not opening the door and just use the letter box instead.
She probably thinks she's being helpful. My postie opens the door and puts mail on the shelf unit just inside. I'm pleased, it saves me from bending down to pick it all up off the mat. It's the same with most of the neighbours round here. I believe rural posties may behave in a more casual way to their city counterparts.
I would suggest she has no ill intent so I personally wouldn't be complaining to the PO, I'd either just mention it to her or keep my door locked.Herman - MP for all!0
