Should have known that a thread remotely related to Christianity would go down the route it has. The non believers just love ANY reason to bash Christians don't they?

Like I said earlier, I find some atheists much more rude and argumentative and judgemental than any Christian I have ever met! And certainly a lot more obnoxious! They just HAVE to tell people how stupid they are for believing, and how 'wrong' they are.

And they're so vocal about their sheer hatred for Christians and come out with so much vitriol and bile about Christianity and religion.

    Makes me wonder why. ;)
For the record, I couldn't care less what anybody else chooses to believe, so long as it isn't pushed onto other people, especially children. I understand the chemical draw humans have to religious stories as "answers" to life's questions. I understand the main tenets of all the major religions, and see the similarities between them.

What I object to is the pushing of religion to those unable/less able to question it, i.e. children, or the use of it to excuse/cover up horrible behaviour towards others.

Follow your own beliefs quietly and I've no issue with you!

What a peculiar (and frankly insulting) way to put it.

It's the scientific explanation. Human consciousness is down to chemicals. Those chemicals make it hard for us to deal with death. It "softens the blow" to believe we go somewhere nice (heaven) or come back (reincarnation). It's a part of most organised religions. ;)

Could you be a Christian if you didn't believe in an afterlife? It sounds impossible to me.

You have to believe in the Resurrection of Jesus, which I do, and of course that means eternal life for those who believe, but even if it didn't, it wouldn't stop me having a relationship with God through Jesus, which is what being a Christian is.

The point I'm trying to make is that, for me at least, the prospect of eternal life is not why I became a Christian nor why I remain one. It's an added bonus. It's my relationship with God now that is the important thing to me.

The main culprit on this site for being rude to religious people, in particular Christians, and calling them names and insulting their intelligence has been PPR'd :) However I have a feeling there will be plenty more where he came from!

Oooh, *wonders which poster you're referring to.* There are a regular small handful on here who are very rude to Christians, so I'm wondering who you're referring to now. :D

And yes SDW, there ARE plenty more where he came from, and who knows, the PPR'd poster could be here under another guise. ;)

What makes you think it's all about fear of death?

No, you were right, not fishing for an argument at all.
