What can I do about neighbours smoking cannabis ?

It's not far fetched at all. Before the workplace smoking ban I had toshare an office with a chain smoker. When Ireturned home at the end of the day my clothes and skin stank and my husband used to complain in bed that my hair still smelled of tobacco smoke. of it. My long deceased m-I-l was a heavy smoker. Some of her personal documents still reside in our filing cabinet and 20 years after her death if you get the papers out you can still smell the cigarette smoke on them!
Complain to the police and if nothing happens tell the police tha you are going to make a formal complaint to your Local authority Police Crime Commissioner who oversees them.
There's a massive difference between sharing a room with someone smoking and passing money across to a person who smells of smoke, being around them for 20 secs and the smell being on you after a walk home. I thought it sounded a bit unrealistic as well.
Im genuinely interested what do you expect the police to do about this if reported? It's all well and good to send an officer to their house but the chances of them answering is practically zero.
I've never smoked tabacco and can't really stand the smell of that. It's pretty obvious to me when someone smokes. I'm not dramatic enough to say it makes me ill or I can smell it a mile away though.
Personally I find cigarette smoke 'clings' a lot more than cannabis smoke and you can smell it for a lot longer but cannabis smoke is more distinctive while its being smoked.0 -

I would expect the police to at least call round. I would also expect them to do a police check on the house for previous convictions by the residents(if that turned up anything drugs related, then a full drugs raid)
Further more if they are lobbing there splif buts in the garden then I would also point that out to mr policeman.
But that would all depend on the region and the standard of policing in that region/force.0 -

I'm sorry but you are being very naive here. There is no way on this earth a raid would be organised because of someone using a bit of cannabis.
The police resources on this country are stretched enough already.
The most they could / would do (and tbh prpbs wouldn't bother) would be to call round for a "chat" and it would most likely go something like this.
- hi we have had reports that you've been smoking cannabis.
- no officer, not me.
- ah OK.can we come in?
- do you have a warrant?
- no.
- no then, you can't come in.
- OK, bye.0 -

You didn't read what the person said. They're trying to claim that they smelled of cannabis because they were in a shop where the person serving smelled of it. They didn't smoke it in front of them.
They must have noses like bloodhounds.0 -

never said I would expect a raid , just for reporting use. what I said was if the residents have form for other drugs offences I would expect that to have a baring on the way the situation is handled.0 -

Sounds like you were saying you'd expect a raid to me.
Possession and supply are two completely different things. I would only expect a raid to be carried out in the event of strong evidence of dealing, certainly not for possession of anything, especially cannabis.
Like it or not cannabis possession in the eyes of the law is one of the least illegal crimes you can commit and carries one of the smallest punishments possible. I'd get more in trouble for throwing a crisp packet on the floor than if I got caught with cannabis.
They're likely to dedicate few, if any resources to it and rightly so. I'd much rather they were out there fighting proper crimes. They might send a PCSO round if you kick up enough fuss but that is probably the limit of what they'll do.
As I said in my first post on this topic, the best course of action is to find out if they're renting and who from, then complain to them.0 -

Well, I hope the OP doesn't live in London then - there is no way they take weed smoking seriously!
There is a car park, local to us, where youths tend to gather, taking weed and pills, and the police (despite endless resident reports) never attend, and just say it's 'low priority anti social behaviour'.
They don't even bother to send any Plastic Plod around!
Unless they are dealing, supplying or manufacturing heavy duty substances, it is basically ignored.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
So you think grassing up a bunch of potheads you live next door to will ensure you have a peacefull life from here on in................ I love the comment about " thin windows" though, hilarious0

There are/were drug dealers two doors down from my partner's mother's house... they were dealing drugs far worse than Mary Jane... but the police didn't do anything about it.
However, call someone a name on social media and they will throw the book at you and throw you in the slammer!0 -
