I m happier with that selection ( apart from the peanut butter ) and hopefully the curry sauce is nt a processed brand..Just home made curry sauce from powder or natural spices ( like the Indians do at home ). I m not too convinced that exercise works too well to lose weight. If people can really control what the actually eat its far better than slogging in the gym. Watching the high calories in fats and oils is the best routine because given half a chance the food manufactures will slot it in where ever they can. Fats are cheap, like sugars are, and the two blend together perfectly ..to make ice cream !

Curry was made with spices pulled from the spice cupboard I hate using pre made stuff it always tastes synthetic and is full of hidden nasties. I prefer to make my own meals gives me a sense of pride when I serve it as well. I don't really exercise to lose weight as such it's more for my state of mind. I do feel more energetic and just happier in general when I exercise. Peanut butter is the meridian brand which is just crushed nuts. I do still limit this though it's too rich to eat everyday.

Its not just sugar everyone should be watching its the natural fruits in the "healthy section " of Sainsburys, apples, bananas all soft fruit etc which we must avoid apart from a special treat. Added sugar can easily be spotted if we care to look at the labels. Its so bad nowadays that in the cereal isle the worst offender of the lot is deemed "healthy "..Muesli ..followed by Cocopops etc etc.The only TWO we are allowed is Porridge Oats and Shredded wheat, preferably with 50/50 almond milk..

Don't worry, I always look at labels before I buy anything and I don't really eat cereal but I do eat porridge. I can't stand shredded wheat.

looks good that selection .Mary Berry was on about her husbands favourite on tv only yesterday ( Malaysian chicken fried rice ) which is similar to your L. she used white rice but the diabetic must go for brown rice. Brown rice is slower to digest and wont spike my blood sugar levels like white rice does, so I m going to have a go at that myself. My rice cooker does brown rice perfectly.
I agree about the exercise. I go jogging mainly to feel fitter. I only do 4 or 5 miles but it does nt seem to lower my weight..Now around 10.7..Was 12.7 when found to be diabetic and went down steadily over a year on a diabetic diet suggested by the clinic. Since then I ve discovered Almond milk, unsweetened at a quarter of the calories of milk (29 cals/200ml ). Milk is high in sugar too..Lactose sugar. It acts just the same as white cane Sucrose sugar. Thats a top tip for your BiL. Alpro or Diamond Breeze almond milk.Milk has about the same number of calories as red wine I was told !

That does sounds pretty good. Mine wasn't that fancy though :p. I prefer brown rice, it tastes better, I also feel fuller for longer with less. Although it does take longer to cook. I always feel hungry if I eat the white stuff. I use the lacto-free milk at the moment I can't really get on with the almond milk as I only really have milk in porridge and coffee. I've also tried rice & Coconut milk. I can drink it but I don't enjoy it. I do have to go for allergy testing at some point in December as my doctor thinks I may have an allergy to white pasta/bread & dairy. Unfortunately I have to eat it for 2 weeks beforehand and I know I am going to feel like a telly tubby but at least I will have answers.
I've given up on my BIL, if you could see some of the things he eats  he has KFC at least once a week and "eat what you like fridays" he does a lot of exercise to help keep his weight down but it can't be doing much for his health.

I must admit that all these milk alternatives are nt very nice really. If I was nt a diabetic I d stick to skimmed. They are awful in tea and passable in coffee. I m trying to drink tea now how most of the rest of the world drink it, black with no milk.A Dutch boss of a big tea company was on the radio a few days ago laughing at the English habit of drinking tea with milk.He said only children have that in Holland. Wood be good not to drinking any milk at all if weight loss is a target. After all its for weaning calves on and quite high in calories. I m now trying various teas to see if I can stand it without milk.
I presume your BiL is not too old , the younger that type 2 develops the harder it is in the long run as I m told its a progressive disease. So the longer you re fighting it the harder it is. I was diagnosed at age 60 with a very healthy life walking the streets day in and out for miles everyday, not overweight, no symptoms neither. I m told its purely because of my diet throughout my life.the Pituitary gland only has so much insulin in it in a lifetime and if we all keep loading our bodies with high sugar levels through our lives it starts to give up producing insulin.I was brought up in the 1950 s when no kids hardly had any sweets and no kids were overweight so I worry when I see lots of young kids today already with BMI s in the obese level. They have have a good chance of developing early diabetes.

The only tea I can drink is herbal tea and you can't put milk in that. I like Nettle tea, most teas by Pukka are pretty good. I tried having my coffee black but I gave up in the end. I usually only have one a day so its not too bad (no sugar of course). I feel quite sick when I think that I used to have 3 sugars in my coffee. It makes my teeth hurt just to think of it. Now I have cut my sugar intake things taste a lot sweeter and I can appreciate natural flavours. I never thought I had a sweet tooth until I cut down, I craved it like it was oxygen. Weird how your body becomes addicted to it. There is a guy at work that drinks 4-5 cans of coke a day and that's just while he is at work?!

Diabetes runs in the family as well, so bad on all fronts, I can't control him but I can make sure my DH eats well. Even our dog eats better. My dog would leap through a burning building for watermelon or Brussels sprouts they are his absolute favourite.

I was a size 6-8 until I hit 18 then my thyroid gave out and I have to take thyroxine. My body doesn't regulate its own metabolism, so I steadily gained weight as I was eating the way I was before. My heaviest I was a size 16-18. I had quite an unhealthy attitude to food and thinking back I'm surprised I didn't develop an eating disorder. I still love food and I now have a much healthier relationship with it.
